【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=안승대 포항시장 출마 예정자(전 울산광역시 행정부시장)가 포항을 대한민국 첨단 AI·방위산업의 국가 전략 거점으로 육성하겠다는 구상을 밝혔다.
안 예정자는 15일 포항시청 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 “AI·로봇·데이터·신소재 기술이 결합된 첨단 방위산업은 연구·실증·생산·데이터가 한 공간에서 유기적으로 작동하는 집적형 클러스터가 핵심”이라며 “그 최적지가 바로 포항”이라고 강조했다.
그는 대한민국 방위산업이 세계적인 수출국으로 성장했음에도 불구하고 산업 생태계가 분산돼 있고, 실증과 생산이 연결된 전략 거점이 부족하다는 점을 한계로 지적했다. 이어 “K-방산이 다음 단계로 도약하기 위해서는 국가 전략형 방산 클러스터가 반드시 필요하다”고 말했다.
안 예정자는 그 해답을 포항 남구, 특히 오천 지역에서 찾고 있다. 포스코의 철강 소재 산업을 기반으로 울산·경주의 제조·부품 산업, 대구·경북의 로봇·첨단 산업이 반경 1시간 이내에 연결돼 있고, 4세대 방사광가속기와 포스텍을 중심으로 한 연구 인프라가 이미 구축돼 있다는 점에서 포항은 최적의 조건을 갖췄다는 설명이다.
특히 오천 해병대 사격장과 전차대대 부지에는 로봇·방위산업특구를 조성해 무인·로봇 전투체계, AI 기반 감시·정찰·지휘 시스템 등 미래형 국방 플랫폼의 실증·시험 거점으로 육성하겠다는 계획을 제시했다. 인근 광명산업단지와 연계해 AI·빅데이터·국방 기술이 결합된 첨단 국방 융합 산업단지를 구축하고, 방산 스타트업부터 중견·대기업까지 함께 성장하는 산업 생태계를 만들겠다는 구상이다.
광명산업단지에 조성될 AI 데이터센터는 산업 전환의 핵심 인프라로 제시됐다. 안 예정자는 “AI 데이터센터를 방사광가속기, 포스텍·한동대, 포스코, 에코프로 등 지역 핵심 기업과 연계해 제조공정 AI, 신소재 분석, 방산 시뮬레이션, 로봇 제어, 국방 데이터 분석까지 포항 산업 전반의 ‘두뇌’ 역할을 하도록 만들겠다”고 밝혔다.
AI 인재 양성 계획도 함께 내놨다. 그는 “산업 경쟁력의 핵심은 사람”이라며 대학·연구소·산업현장을 연계한 교육 체계를 강화하고, AI·데이터·국방·로봇 융합 교육과정 개설과 현장 중심 전문교육기관 설립을 추진하겠다고 설명했다.
또한 오천 방산특구와 연계해 블루밸리 국가산업단지를 첨단 제조기업의 전진기지로 육성하고, 방산·로봇·AI 산업과 연결되는 고부가가치 산업 생태계를 조성해 양질의 일자리 창출과 젊은 인구 유입으로 이어가겠다는 비전도 제시했다.
안승대 포항시장 출마 예정자는 “포항은 산업과 연구, 인재와 실증 환경을 모두 갖춘 도시”라며 “포항 남구를 대한민국 미래 국방산업의 출발점으로 만들어 포항의 산업 구조와 미래를 근본적으로 바꾸겠다”고 말했다. 이어 “포항을 대한민국 첨단 AI·방위산업의 메카로 도약시키는 데 모든 역량을 쏟겠다”고 밝혔다.
