이번에 승인된 스마트도시계획은 2025년부터 2029년까지 5개년 법정계획으로, 제4차 국가 스마트도시 종합계획을 토대로 증평군 특성을 반영해 마련됐다.
정보통신기술(ICT)을 도시 전반에 접목해 주민이 체감할 수 있는 도시 서비스를 제공하는 것이 핵심이다.
군은 지난해 5월 스마트도시계획 착수보고회를 시작으로 주민 설문조사와 리빙랩 등을 통해 주민 의견을 수렴하고 이를 바탕으로 관계 부서 협의를 거쳐 계획의 실효성을 높였다.

단기(2025~2026년)에는 스마트도시 솔루션 확산사업과 스마트 관광 플랫폼 및 특화서비스 구축 사업비를 확보했으며, 중장기(2027~2029년) 사업을 위해서는 국비 지원 공모사업 참여를 통해 재정 기반을 확충할 방침이다.
군은 이번 계획을 통해 생활권 중심의 콤팩트 도시 모델을 구축하고, 지속가능한 도시 경쟁력을 확보함으로써 충북 내 스마트도시 선도 지자체로 자리매김할 것으로 기대하고 있다.
