해병대1사단 간부 신속한 초기 대응으로 대형 산불 확산 막아

포항남부소방서에 따르면 지난 15일 오후 1시48분께 장기면 대진항 일대 도로 인근 야산에서 민간 오토바이 사고로 추정되는 화재가 발생했다. 당시 해당 지역에는 건조주의보와 대형산불위험 예보가 내려진 가운데 강한 바람까지 불고 있어 자칫 대형 산불로 이어질 수 있는 상황이었다.

화재는 부대 훈련 이동 중이던 해병대 제1사단 해안감시기동대대 소속 김현준 상사가 연기를 발견하면서 최초 확인됐다. 김 상사는 즉시 차량을 정차한 뒤 부대 차량에 비치된 소화기를 이용해 불길을 진압했으며, 동시에 부대에 상황을 보고해 추가 소화 장비 지원을 요청했다.

이 같은 초기 대응으로 불은 산림 지역으로 번지기 전에 대부분 진화됐다. 이후 오후 2시께 출동한 오천119안전센터 장기지역대가 현장을 인계받아 잔불 정리와 안전 조치를 마무리했다. 이번 화재로 인한 인명 피해는 발생하지 않았다.

유문선 포항남부소방서장은 “건조한 기상 여건에서는 작은 불씨도 순식간에 대형 산불로 번질 수 있다”며 “이번 사례처럼 초기 발견과 신속한 대응이 대형 피해를 막는 핵심”이라고 강조했다.
