경주시, 폐기물처리시설 주변영향지역 제12기 주민지원협의체 위원 위촉

이날 위촉식에서는 시의원 3명과 주민대표 9명 등 총 12명에게 위촉장이 수여됐다. 위원 임기는 2026년 1월 19일부터 2028년 1월 18일까지 2년간이다. 이번에 위촉된 시의원은 임활·정종문·정희택 의원으로, 주민대표 9명과 함께 주민지원협의체 활동에 참여하게 된다.

주민지원협의체는 생활쓰레기 소각·매립 등 생활폐기물처리시설 운영 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 주민 불편과 우려를 해소하고, 폐기물처리시설 주변영향지역 주민의 의견을 행정에 반영하기 위해 구성된 협의기구다. 지난 2001년 첫 출범 이후 주민 복지 증진과 지역 상생을 위한 역할을 지속적으로 수행해 오고 있다.

경주시는 현재 폐기물처리시설 주변영향지역 주민을 위해 주민지원기금 130억3,200만 원(지난해 말 기준)을 조성·운영하고 있으며, 생활폐기물 처리 안정화와 환경 개선을 위한 시설 현대화 사업도 단계적으로 추진 중이다.

주낙영 경주시장은 인사말에서 “폐기물처리시설은 시민 생활에 반드시 필요한 공공시설이지만, 운영 과정에서 주변 지역 주민들의 희생과 협조가 따를 수밖에 없다”며 “주민지원협의체는 주민과 행정을 잇는 중요한 소통 창구로서 그 역할이 매우 크다”고 강조했다.

이어 “위원 여러분께서 시설 운영에 대한 의견 수렴은 물론, 주민 복지 증진과 지역 발전을 위한 다양한 제안과 논의를 이끌어 주시길 기대한다”며 “시는 주민 복리 증진을 위해 행정적·재정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 경주시는 앞으로도 주민지원협의체와의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 폐기물처리시설 운영의 투명성을 높이고, 주변영향지역 주민과의 상생 기반을 더욱 강화해 나갈 방침이다.
