본 사업은 진천읍 성석리 일원 약 11만 평(371,115㎡) 규모 부지에 계획인구 5,405명을 수용하는 도시개발사업으로, 총사업비 약 1천419억 원이 투입된다.
사업지구에는 공동주택을 중심으로 한 주거용지와 함께 상업·행정·복합용지 등이 체계적으로 배치돼 주거 기능과 도시 지원 기능을 동시에 갖춘 미니신도시로 조성될 예정이다.
특히 성석지구는 진천읍 기존 시가지와 연계한 도시 확장 거점으로서, 주거환경 개선은 물론 지역 내 정주 여건 향상과 생활 인프라 확충에 크게 이바지할 것으로 기대되고 있다.
