<브레이크뉴스 강릉=김일웅 기자>강릉시가 본격적인 영농철을 앞두고 농촌 지역에 방치된 폐기물을 집중 수거해 쾌적한 농업 환경을 조성하기 위한 이색 경진대회를 개최한다.
강릉시는 한국환경공단과 공동으로 농촌 지역의 폐비닐, 폐농약용기 등의 적정 처리와 재활용을 촉진하기 위한 ‘영농폐기물 수거 경진대회’를 오는 5월까지 5개월간 추진한다고 20일 밝혔다.
이번 경진대회는 읍면동별 영농집하장을 관리하는 마을회와 부녀회 등이 주체가 되어 참여한다. 단순한 수거 활동을 넘어, 영농폐기물의 체계적인 관리와 올바른 배출 문화를 정착시키기 위해 마련된 이번 대회는 마을 간 선의의 경쟁을 통해 수거 사각지대를 해소하는 데 목적이 있다.
평가는 수거량 및 전년 대비 증가율 등 ‘계량 지표’와 집하장 청결 상태, 이물질 혼입 저감 노력, 주민 홍보 활동 등 ‘비계량 지표’를 종합적으로 합산해 이루어진다. 우수한 성과를 거둔 참여 단체에는 기후에너지 환경부장관 표창과 함께 총 400만 원 규모의 포상금이 수여될 예정이다.
강릉시는 현재 운영 중인 65개소의 영농집하장을 기반으로 지난해 총 170톤의 영농폐기물을 수거해 처리한 바 있다. 시는 이번 경진대회를 통해 수거율을 더욱 높이는 한편, 무단 방치나 불법 소각으로 인한 토양·대기 오염을 예방해 자원순환 문화를 농촌 현장까지 확산시킨다는 복안이다.
강릉시 관계자는 “이번 대회는 주민들이 직접 우리 마을의 환경을 가꾸고 자원순환의 가치를 실현하는 실천의 장이 될 것”이라며, “그동안 수거가 어려웠던 폐기물들이 체계적으로 회수되어 농촌 환경이 한층 쾌적해질 수 있도록 마을 단체의 적극적인 참여와 관심을 부탁드린다”고 전했다.
