에코프로는 최근 조직 개편을 단행하고 독일에 유럽 판매 법인을 설립했으며, 킴벌 비르디(Kimbal Virdi) 이사를 법인장으로 임명했다고 28일 밝혔다.
새로 출범한 유럽 법인은 급변하는 유럽 전기차 및 배터리 공급망 환경 속에서 신규 사업 기회를 발굴하는 ‘유럽 비즈니스 허브’ 역할을 수행할 것으로 기대된다. 최근 유럽연합(EU)의 핵심원자재법(CRMA) 발효 등으로 역내 조달 규제가 강화되면서 주요 완성차(OEM) 업체들이 핵심 소재를 직접 확보하려는 움직임이 가속화되고 있다.
에코프로는 이러한 시장 변화에 발맞춰 유럽 현지 법인을 통해 고객사의 요구에 실시간으로 대응하고 수주 경쟁력을 강화한다는 방침이다.
앞서 에코프로는 지난해 11월 헝가리 데브레첸에 양극재 공장을 준공하며 유럽 내 생산 기반을 마련한 바 있다. 이번 판매 법인 설립을 계기로 생산·판매·마케팅을 유기적으로 연계해 현지 셀메이커와 완성차 업체와의 협력을 한층 확대할 계획이다.
특히 소형 전기차 비중이 높은 유럽 시장의 특성을 고려해 하이니켈 양극재뿐만 아니라 가격 경쟁력과 성능을 동시에 확보한 고전압 미드니켈 양극재 등으로 제품 포트폴리오를 다변화할 방침이다.
아울러 유럽 내 잠재 고객 발굴과 함께 현지 리사이클 업체와의 파트너십도 강화한다. 폐배터리 재활용 시장에서 유럽 현지 기업들과 네트워크를 구축해 양질의 폐배터리 원료를 안정적으로 확보하고, 자원 순환 생태계 구축을 주도하겠다는 구상이다.
킴벌 비르디 유럽 법인장은 “유럽 내 양극재와 전구체 마케팅은 물론 폐배터리 리사이클 사업 지원을 통해 양극재 사업 간 시너지를 창출할 것”이라며 “현지 네트워크를 적극 활용해 올해 안에 가시적인 계약 성과를 내겠다”고 말했다.
