[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 함양군이 1조원 규모의 '함양 AI 데이터센터’ 건립에 속도를 올리고 있다.
군은 30일 ‘함양 AI 데이터센터’ 투자 진행 현황을 논의하기 위해 인천광역시에 있는 ‘몬드리안 AI’ 본사를 방문해 오리드코리아 주식회사 최중림 대표, 몬드리안 에이아이(주) 홍대의 대표 등 투자사 대표를 찾았다.
오리드코리아 주식회사는 휴천일반산업단지에 100MW 규모의 데이터센터 건립을 진행 중인 기업이다.
2023년 함양군과 투자계획 협의를 시작으로 2024년 6월 휴천일반산업단지 관리계획 변경을 통해 기존 강주물 주조업이었던 업종을 ‘정보서비스업’으로 변경하는 등 첨단산업 유치의 토대를 마련했다.
현재는 전력계통 영향평가를 마치고 설계 용역이 4개월째 순조롭게 진행 중이다.
공동 파트너이자 운영사인 ‘몬드리안 에이아이(주)’는 빅데이터를 기반 인공지능 인프라 구축, 인공지능 모델 개발, 산업 솔루션 개발, 정보기술(IT)·데이터 컨설팅을 지원하는 전문기업으로, 향후 데이터센터의 효율적인 운영과 고도화된 정보기술(IT) 지원을 전담할 예정이다.
데이터센터 건립 예정지인 휴천일반산업단지는 분지형 지형으로 외부 노출이 적어 보안성이 뛰어나며, 조성 당시 제강공장에 필요한 대규모 전력을 공급하기 위해 154kV 송전선로가 이미 확보되어 있어 데이터센터 구축에 최적의 부지로 평가받고 있다.
함양군은 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않고 있으며, 지난 2025년 2월 한국전력공사와 전력공급 협약을 체결해 안정적인 대규모 전력 기반을 선제적으로 확보했다.
시행사인 오리드코리아 주식회사는 올해 상반기 내 필요한 인허가 절차를 마무리하고 연내 착공에 들어갈 계획이다.
이후 2027년 공사를 완공, 2028년부터는 본격적인 운영에 들어가는 것을 목표로 데이터센터 건립 추진에 속도를 내고 있다.
이번 데이터센터 건립은 총 1조 300여억 원이 투입되며, 300여 명의 양질의 일자리 창출, 연관 산업 유입, 지역 세수 증대, 단순 제조업에서 머물러 있는 함양군에 첨단 정보기술(IT) 산업도 가능함을 보여줌으로의 지역의 성장 잠재력을 알리는 강력한 파급효과를 기대하고 있다.
함양군 관계자는 “이번 인공지능(AI) 데이터센터 건립은 단순한 기업 유치를 넘어 함양군의 산업구조 변화 가능성을 예고하는 상징적인 이정표가 될 것”이라며, “기업이 안심하고 투자할 수 있는 환경을 조성해 함양이 남부 내륙 중심도시로 발전해 갈 수 있도록 모든 행정적 역량을 집중하겠다”고 전했다.

Construction on the data center is expected to be completed in 2027 and fully operational in 2028.
