브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 경찰이 김병기 무소속 의원의 차남 취업 청탁 의혹과 관련해 국내 가상자산 거래소 1·2위인 업비트 전 대표와 빗썸 임원들을 잇따라 소환해 조사했다.
4일 서울경찰청 공공범죄수사대는 이날 오전 10시 업비트 운영사 두나무의 전 대표인 이석우 전 대표를 참고인 신분으로 불러 약 1시간 동안 조사했다.
경찰은 이 전 대표를 상대로 김 의원과의 식사 자리에서 차남 취업과 관련한 청탁이나 부적절한 논의가 있었는지, 구체적으로 어떤 대화가 오갔는지 등을 확인한 것으로 전해졌다.
이 전 대표는 지난해 9월부터 11월 사이 김 의원과 여러 차례 식사를 했고, 이 자리에는 김 의원의 차남도 동석했던 것으로 알려졌다.
경찰은 이 과정에서 김 의원이 업계 1위인 두나무 측에 차남 취업을 부탁했는지 여부를 들여다보고 있다.
일각에서는 두나무가 해당 청탁을 거절하자 김 의원 측이 보복성 질의를 준비하도록 했다는 의혹도 제기된 상태다.
실제로 김 의원은 지난해 2월 국회 정무위원회 전체회의에서 두나무를 겨냥해 "특정 거래소의 독과점이 가장 큰 문제"라고 지적한 바 있다.
당시 김병환 금융위원장은 이에 대해 공정거래위원회와 협의해 규제 방안을 검토하겠다고 답했다.
경찰은 이어 이날 오후 1시 50분께 업계 2위 거래소인 빗썸의 임원 A씨도 참고인 신분으로 불러 조사를 진행했다.
전날에는 빗썸의 또 다른 대관 담당 임원 김모씨도 소환돼 조사를 받았다.
경찰은 빗썸 임원 조사에서도 김 의원 차남의 채용 과정에 청탁이나 대가성이 있었는지, 식사 자리에서 어떤 이야기가 오갔는지를 집중적으로 확인한 것으로 알려졌다.
빗썸 대표 역시 지난해 11월 김 의원과 저녁 자리를 함께한 것으로 전해졌다.
김 의원은 이 자리에서도 두나무 측과 마찬가지로 차남 취업을 청탁했다는 의혹을 받고 있다.
김 의원의 차남은 이후 두 달 뒤인 지난해 1월 빗썸에 입사해 약 6개월간 근무했다.
다만 빗썸 측은 채용 과정에 아무런 문제가 없었다는 입장을 유지하고 있다.
앞서 조사받은 빗썸 임원 김씨는 전날 오후 6시 49분께 서울 마포구 서울경찰청 광역수사단 청사를 나오면서 취재진의 질문에 아무런 답변을 하지 않고 귀가했다.
한편 김병기 의원은 이번 취업 청탁 의혹 외에도 전 동작구의원들로부터 공천헌금을 받았다는 의혹, 차남의 숭실대 편입 과정 개입 의혹, 배우자의 동작구의회 법인카드 유용 및 수사 무마 의혹 등 총 13건의 추가 의혹을 받고 있다.
경찰은 관련자 조사를 이어가며 사실관계를 정리한 뒤 김 의원 소환 여부와 시점을 검토할 방침이다.

Rep. Kim's second son joined Bithumb two months later, in January of last year, and worked there for approximately six months.
However, Bithumb maintains that there were no issues with the hiring process.
