가평군은 지난 9일 군청 제2청사에서 ‘평화경제특구 조성 방안 수립 용역 착수보고회’를 개최하고, 특구 지정을 위한 구체적인 로드맵 마련에 돌입했다고 10일 밝혔다.
이날 보고회에는 서태원 가평군수와 김미성 부군수, 전철 경기도 평화기반조성과장을 비롯해 관계 공무원 10여 명이 참석해 향후 추진 방향과 세부 전략을 심도 있게 논의했다.
용역 수행기관으로 선정된 한국자치경제연구원은 앞으로 12개월간 가평군의 대내외적 여건을 분석하고, 평화경제 기반 구축을 위한 차별화된 전략을 수립한다. 특히 특구 지정의 타당성을 뒷받침할 논리 개발과 세부 사업 계획 마련에 행정력을 집중할 방침이다.
평화경제특구는 남북 협력 시대를 대비해 접경 지역에 산업·관광·물류 단지를 조성하는 국가 전략 사업이다. 특구로 지정되면 각종 규제 완화와 세제 혜택이 주어져 기업 유치와 일자리 창출에 탄력을 받을 수 있다.
가평군은 수도권과의 뛰어난 접근성과 수려한 자연환경을 강점으로 내세워, 특구 지정을 통해 경기 동북부의 새로운 경제 거점으로 도약하겠다는 청사진을 그리고 있다.
