포천시는 지난 9일 시정회의실에서 포천시 홀스타인검정연합회 주최로 ‘포천 낙농 산업 발전 성과보고 및 간담회’를 개최했다고 10일 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 백영현 포천시장과 시의회 의장, 낙농가 대표 및 2세 후계 낙농인 등 관계자들이 대거 참석해 지역 낙농업의 현주소를 진단하고 미래 발전 전략을 모색했다.
성과 보고에 따르면, 포천시는 체계적인 개량 사업에 힘입어 2025년 한국 홀스타인 품평회에서 대통령상과 국무총리상을 석권하고 ‘올해의 최고 젖소’를 배출하는 기염을 토했다. 특히 젖소의 산유 능력을 보여주는 305일 평균 유량은 1만 706kg(2025년 기준)을 기록, 전국 평균을 크게 웃돌며 압도적인 생산성을 과시했다.

김도성 사무국장은 “이러한 성과는 산유능력 검정, 혈통 등록, 우군 유전체 분석 등 과학적인 데이터 기반의 개량 사업이 있었기에 가능했다”며 시의 지속적인 지원을 건의했다.
이어진 간담회에서는 ▲수정란 지원 등 고급 개량 기술 확대 ▲축사 증축 관련 규제 완화 ▲경영 여건 개선 등 현장의 애로사항이 가감 없이 논의됐다. 참석자들은 "일관성 있는 정책 지원만이 낙농 산업의 생존 열쇠"라며 한목소리를 냈다.
시 관계자는 “현장에서 묵묵히 땀 흘린 농가들의 노력이 포천 낙농의 브랜드 가치를 높였다”며 “앞으로도 현장 중심의 실질적인 지원책을 마련해 낙농 경쟁력을 더욱 강화하겠다”고 밝혔다.
