브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차의 대형 전기 스포츠유틸리티차(SUV) 아이오닉9이 중앙일보가 주관하는 ‘중앙일보 2026 올해의 차(Car of the Year, COTY)’로 선정됐다.
중앙일보 COTY 심사위원회는 총 12개 브랜드의 15개 신차를 평가한 결과 아이오닉9을 최고상인 올해의 차로 최종 선정했다고 10일 밝혔다.
심사는 성능, 디자인, 미디어, 첨단 운전자 보조시스템(ADAS), 모빌리티 등 13개 분야의 전문가 13명이 참여해 지난 1월 31일부터 이틀간 진행됐다.
첫째 날에는 경기도 화성시 자동차안전연구원에서 차량 내·외부 디자인과 고속주회로 주행, 조향 성능을 평가했고, 둘째 날에는 자율주행 관련 ADAS 성능을 종합적으로 점검했다.
특히 이번 중앙일보 2026 올해의 차 결과는 전기차 중심의 자동차 시장 변화를 분명하게 보여줬다. 총 9개 수상작 가운데 8개가 전기차였으며, 1개만 하이브리드 차량이었다. 순수 내연기관차는 단 한 대도 수상작에 포함되지 않았다.
1위를 차지한 아이오닉9은 각 평가 부문에서 고른 점수를 받아 총 1571점을 기록했다.

정승렬 심사위원장(국민대 총장)은 아이오닉9에 대해 “세련된 패밀리카가 성능까지 잡았다”며 “기존 패밀리카들이 가장 긴장해야 할 차량”이라고 평가했다.
아이오닉9은 1회 충전 기준 최대 532㎞ 주행거리와 공기저항을 최소화한 디자인으로도 높은 점수를 받았다.
박진원 심사위원(APTIV 책임연구원)은 “넓은 공간을 확보하면서도 주행거리를 고려한 과감한 설계가 돋보였다”며 “고속주행 안정감과 소음 차단 성능이 우수했다”고 말했다.
중앙일보 2026 올해의 차 본상에는 아이오닉9을 포함해 총 4개 모델이 선정됐다.
올해의 MPV에는 기아의 전기 다목적 차량 PV5, 올해의 세단에는 현대차의 고성능 전기 세단 아이오닉6N, 올해의 퓨처모빌리티에는 BMW의 전기 SUV iX가 선정됐다.
대상과 본상 4개 모델은 모두 전기차였다.
기아 PV5는 전기차 기반의 다목적 차량으로, 차체 활용 방식에 따라 캠핑카, 이동업무차, 화물차 등 다양한 용도로 변형이 가능하다는 점이 높이 평가됐다.
장진택 심사위원(미디어오토 대표)은 “새로운 장르를 개척한 차량이면서도 완성도가 매우 높다”며 “디자인, 공간 활용, 동력 성능이 균형 잡혀 있다”고 평가했다.
아이오닉6N은 중형 전기 세단 아이오닉6를 기반으로 한 고성능 모델로 최고 출력은 기본 609마력이며, N그린부스트 기능 사용 시 650마력까지 성능이 향상된다.
김진표 심사위원(방송인 겸 전 금호타이어 레이싱팀 감독)은 아이오닉6N에 대해 “현대차가 전기차에서도 운전의 즐거움을 진지하게 고민하고 있음을 보여주는 차”라고 평가했다.
BMW iX는 첨단 운전자 보조시스템 성능에서 높은 점수를 받았다. 특히 보행자 감지, 충돌 경고, 자동긴급제동장치(AEBS) 성능이 안정적이라는 평가를 받았다.
김학선 심사위원(자동차안전연구원 책임연구원)은 “iX는 사물 인지 능력이 뛰어나며 제동 과정에서도 승차감을 해치지 않았다”고 말했다.
이혁기 심사위원(한국자동차연구원 지능제어안전연구본부장)은 “보행자 인지 성능이 우수하고 제동이 부드러워 사고 경감 효과가 높다”고 평가했다.
본상 외에도 중앙일보 COTY는 5개 부문상을 추가로 선정했다.
올해의 디자인상은 마세라티의 전기 스포츠카 그란투리스모 폴고레가 수상했다.
심사위원단은 이 차량이 전통적인 마세라티 디자인 DNA를 계승하면서도 전기차 특성에 맞는 혁신적 디자인을 구현했다고 평가했다.
올해의 퍼포먼스상은 메르세데스-AMG GT 63 S E 퍼포먼스가 차지했다. 이 차량은 V8 엔진과 전기모터를 결합한 플러그인 하이브리드(PHEV) 모델이다.
김기태 심사위원(오토뷰 편집장)은 “미래 스포츠카가 지향해야 할 기술을 보여주는 모델”이라고 평가했다.
올해의 유틸리티상은 KG모빌리티의 소형 전기 픽업 무쏘 EV가 선정됐다.
심사위원들은 온·오프로드 성능과 실용성이 균형 잡혔다고 평가했다.
특히 2열 리클라이닝 기능에 대해 다른 수입차에는 없는 강점이라고 꼽았다.
올해의 베스트 체인지상은 아우디 A6 e-트론이 수상했다.
심사위원단은 이 차량이 아우디의 성공적인 전동화 전환을 보여주는 모델이라고 평가했다.
올해의 컴팩트상은 볼보 EX30이 차지했다.
미니멀한 디자인과 실용적인 주행거리, 일상 주행에 적합한 공간성이 높은 평가를 받았다.
