[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 명절은 누군가에게는 풍요로운 휴식이지만, 홀로 지내는 취약계층에게는 상대적 박탈감이 깊어지는 시기다. 이 빈틈을 메우기 위해 창원특례시 진해구의 자원봉사자들이 팔을 걷어붙였다.
창원시는 지난 10일, 창원시자원봉사단체협의회 진해지회 주관으로 진해자원봉사캠프에서 ‘명절맞이 이웃사랑 온정 나눔 행사’를 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 행사는 설 명절을 앞두고 진해구 내 소외된 이웃 143세대에 따뜻한 한 끼와 진심 어린 안부를 전하기 위해 마련됐다.
진해지회는 현재 17개 단체, 총 783명의 회원으로 구성되어 있다. 이들은 명절마다 떡국떡, 김, 참기름 등 한국인의 식탁에 꼭 필요한 품목을 엄선해 전달해왔다. 봉사자들이 직접 취약계층 가정을 방문해 건강 상태를 확인하고 말벗이 되어주는 과정은 고독사 예방 등 지역 사회의 실질적인 안전망 역할을 수행하고 있다.
올해 전달된 선물 꾸러미에는 명절의 상징인 떡국떡과 더불어 고소한 참기름, 김 등이 담겼다. 현장에 참여한 한 봉사자는 “물가가 올라 명절 준비에 시름이 깊어진 이웃들이 우리가 준비한 선물을 받고 잠시나마 시름을 잊으셨으면 좋겠다”며 소회를 전했다.
진해지회는 명절 나눔 외에도 평소 ▲밑반찬 나눔 ▲급식 봉사 ▲지역 축제 지원 ▲환경정화 활동 등 진해구 전역에서 전방위적인 활동을 펼치고 있다.
배숙자 진해지회장은 “이번 설맞이 물품 나눔을 통해 어려운 이웃에게 조금이나마 힘이 될 수 있어 큰 보람을 느낀다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회에 사랑과 온기를 전하는 나눔 활동을 꾸준히 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
