파주시가 인공지능(AI) 분야 세계 수준의 인재 양성을 위한 AI 대학원 유치에 본격 나섰다.
파주시는 지난 10일 최병갑 부시장 주재로 '제1차 인공지능(AI) 대학원 유치를 위한 전략회의'를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이번 회의는 시가 올해 3대 시정목표 중 하나인 '100만 자족도시 신속 진입'을 위해 구성한 '100만 파주 도약 TF'팀을 주축으로 진행됐다.

특히 학계와 산업계 전문가들로 구성된 자문회의를 공식화하며 첫 출범을 알렸다.
이날 회의에서는 ▲파주시 소유 부지를 활용한 대학원 건립 지원 방안 ▲평화경제특구, 경제자유구역과 연계한 산학협력 모델 구축 ▲지자체-대학-기업 간 상생 협력체계 조성 방안 등이 집중 논의됐다.
자문위원들은 도농복합도시인 파주의 특성을 살려 교육 기반시설 부족으로 인한 지역 간 교육격차를 해소하고, 우수 인재들이 지역에 정주할 수 있는 환경 조성이 중요하다는 데 의견을 모았다.
최병갑 부시장은 "AI 대학원 유치는 파주시가 추진하는 평화경제특구, 경제자유구역, 메디컬 클러스터를 완성할 미래 성장 동력의 핵심"이라며 "자문위원들의 전문적인 식견을 바탕으로 대학이 매력을 느낄 수 있는 차별화된 유치 전략을 수립해 100만 자족도시 파주의 기반을 다지겠다"고 강조했다.
