이번 전정 대상은 강선로·대화로의 버즘나무와 고봉로의 느티나무, 고양대로의 회화나무 등 가로수 1,681주를 비롯해 가좌천과 장월평천 상·하류부에 식재된 왕벚나무·이팝나무 등 교목 2,276주, 무궁화 등 관목 435주 등 총 4천여 주에 이른다.
구는 이번 사업을 통해 수고 조절과 밀생 가지 및 고사 가지 제거 등 수목 밀도 조절을 실시해 가로수의 수형을 유지하고 병해충 발생을 예방하는 등 체계적인 관리에 나설 계획이다.
특히 차량과 접촉 우려가 있는 처진 가지와 보행자 통행에 지장을 주는 가지를 정비함으로써 교통사고를 예방하고 보행환경을 개선하는 효과가 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
