태백시는 12일 태백시대학유치민간추진위원회(위원장 박흠복)와 함께 강릉영동대학교 2025학년도 전기 학위수여식에 참석해 대학 관계자들과 구체적인 실행 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.
이날 방문은 단순한 축하를 넘어, 오는 3월부터 태백 현지에서 시작될 ‘협동수업’의 성공적인 안착을 위해 마련됐다. 이상호 태백시장은 서원석 강릉영동대 총장직무대행 등 대학 주요 보직자들과 실무 차담회를 갖고, 학생과 교수진이 불편 없이 수업할 수 있도록 전폭적인 행정 지원을 약속했다.
태백시와 추진위원회는 이번 협동수업을 시작으로 오는 2027년 ‘강릉영동대 태백캠퍼스’ 유치를 목표로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 추진위는 민간 차원에서 지역 인프라를 연결하고 시민들의 유치 열기를 확산시키는 등 현장 지원에 적극 나서기로 했다.
태백시 관계자는 “오는 3월 시작되는 협동수업은 도시 전체를 배움터로 만드는 ‘담벼락 없는 교육 모델’의 실질적인 첫걸음이 될 것”이라며 “대학의 전문 역량이 태백의 미래 산업과 결합해 지역 경제에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 수 있도록 강릉영동대와 긴밀한 파트너십을 이어가겠다”고 강조했다.
