청소 작업에 직접 참여한 박 예정자는 “현장을 몸으로 체험해 보니 환경관리원들의 노고와 긴박함을 실감했다”고 말했다. 그는 “종량제 봉투를 사용하지 않거나 음식물 쓰레기가 일반 쓰레기에 혼입되는 사례가 빈번했다”며 “쓰레기 속에 주사바늘, 이쑤시개 등 위험 물품이 섞여 있는 경우도 있어 현장 근로자의 안전을 위협하고 있다”고 밝혔다.

박 예정자는 환경관리원을 “포항의 청결을 지키는 환경영웅”이라고 표현하며 ▲인력 확충 ▲안전장비 강화 ▲쓰레기 관리체계 개선 ▲처우 개선 및 지원 방안 마련 등을 추진하겠다고 약속했다.

그는 “환경관리원이 안전하고 존중받는 도시가 곧 깨끗한 도시”라며 “시민과 함께 올바른 분리배출 문화를 정착시키겠다”고 말했다.
