[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 거제시가 산업통상자원부 주관 ‘조선해양 생산공정혁신 지원 기반구축’ 공모사업 유치에 나섰다.
시는 경상남도, 중소조선연구원과 협력해 공모 신청을 완료했다고 25일 밝혔다.
이 사업은 2026~2030년 5년간 총 250억 원(국비 100억 원 포함)을 투입해 거제 장목면 일원에 조성하는 프로젝트다.
조선소 전 공정에 인공지능(AI)을 적용해 생산성을 높이고 품질 편차를 최소화하는 ‘지능형 자율제조 체계’ 구축이 목표다.
거제에는 삼성중공업과 한화오션이 위치해 있어, AI 기반 공정 최적화 실증을 위한 최적의 산업 환경을 갖췄다는 평가다.
시는 사업 유치에 성공할 경우 생산공정 데이터 통합관리 고도화, AI 공정 최적화 실증, 중소 협력사 기술 확산 등을 추진해 ‘조선 AI 실증 거점’으로 도약한다는 계획이다.
변광용 거제시장은 "거제는 수십 년간 축적된 세계 최고의 생산 역량과 인프라를 갖춘 조선해양 A 혁신의 태동지"며 "단순 유치를 넘어 대한민국 조선산업이 인공지능 전환을 통해 다시 한번 글로벌 표준을 주도할 수 있도록 모든 역량을 쏟아붓겠다"고 강한 의지를 표명했다.
거제시는 공모 마감 직후부터 이어지는 평가 과정에서도 경남도, 중소조선연구원과 긴밀히 협력해 거제 유치의 당위성을 피력하는 등 최종 선정까지 총력전을 펼칠 방침이다.

Geoje City Efforts to Attract 'Shipbuilding and Marine Production Process Innovation' Project
Geoje City has launched an all-out effort to attract bids for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's "Building a Support Infrastructure for Shipbuilding and Marine Production Process Innovation."
The city announced on the 25th that it has completed the application process in collaboration with South Gyeongsang Province and the Korea Institute of Small and Medium Shipbuilding.
This project, to be built in Jangmok-myeon, Geoje, will involve a total investment of KRW 25 billion (including KRW 10 billion in government funding) over five years from 2026 to 2030.
The goal is to establish an "intelligent autonomous manufacturing system" that applies artificial intelligence (AI) across all shipyard processes to increase productivity and minimize quality deviations.
Geoje, home to Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean, is considered to have an optimal industrial environment for demonstrating AI-based process optimization.
If successful in attracting the project, the city plans to establish itself as a "shipbuilding AI demonstration base" by advancing the integrated management of production process data, demonstrating AI process optimization, and expanding technology to small and medium-sized partner companies.
Geoje Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong expressed his strong commitment, saying, "Geoje is the birthplace of shipbuilding and marine innovation, boasting world-class production capabilities and infrastructure accumulated over decades. We will dedicate all our resources to ensuring that the Korean shipbuilding industry, through its AI transformation, once again leads the global standard."
From the closing of the application period through the evaluation process, Geoje City will work closely with Gyeongnam Province and the Korea Institute of Small and Medium-sized Shipbuilding to demonstrate the city's merits and will exert all its efforts until the final selection.
