가요경연 프로그램 현역가왕을 시청하면서 특히 어린 신동들 14살 동갑의 김태연, 빈예서, 12살 이수연 양의 노래를 들으며 많은 생각을 매만졌다. 특히 김태연 양의 성장이 돋보였다. 몇 년 전 소녀가 소속되어있던 대표와 재일한국계인 일본의 신동 가수 아즈마 아키(東亜樹)양과 제휴하려 했던 계획이 여러 사정으로 무산되면서 겪어야 했던 통증이 새로웠다. 6살 나이에 부른 노래를 유튜브에서 살피며 인연을 맺었다. 지난달 즈음 아키 가수 아버지 전화에서 신곡을 준비 중이라는 연락을 받았다.
나아가 경연이라는 무게의 압박에 노래를 잇지 못한 빈예서 양을 지켜보며 더욱 뿌리 깊은 나무로 자라기를 응원하였다. 나아가 12살 막내 이수연의 당찬 모습이 깊은 울림으로 다가왔다. 소녀는 작년 8월 15일 재일본대한민국민단 동경본부가 주최하는 80주년 광복절 중앙기념식에서 지인 오영석 단장과 ‘고향의 봄’을 부르며 대미를 장식하였다. 작년 말 일본행에서 오 단장님을 뵈었을 때 이수연 소녀에 대하여 필자가 전한 이야기가 있었다. 어려서 국악을 배운 김태연 신동을 보면 이상하게 한예종 교수 채수정 명창님이 겹쳐온다. 공교롭게 오늘 치악산 채수정 소리마을을 찾아간다.
브라질 음악의 살아있는 신화로 20세기 최고의 싱어송라이터 중 한 명인 카에타누 벨로주는 1942년 브라질에서 태어났다. 그는 1960년대 군사 독재 정권 태동기에 연극, 시, 음악을 통합한 전위적 문화 운동 ‘트로피칼리아(Tropicália)’를 주도한 혁명적인 예술가였다. 1969년 그의 음악적 영향력을 두려워한 독재 정권에 의해 체포된 후 런던으로 망명한 2년은 그에게 깊은 통증의 기록인 동시에 음악적 지평을 세계로 확장하는 결정적 계기가 되었다.

가슴으로 듣는 51번 곡에 놓인 그가 재해석한 노래 ‘쿠쿠루쿠쿠 팔로마(Cucurrucucú Paloma)’의 뿌리는 1954년 멕시코 작곡가 토마스 멘데스가 발표한 전통 음악에 있다. 본래 이 곡은 멕시코 동부 우아스테카 지방의 민속 양식인 ‘우아팡고(Huapango)’ 스타일로, 특유의 빠른 리듬과 고음역대를 넘나드는 화려한 가성 창법이 특징인 생동감 넘치는 음악이었다.
