고양특례시가 커피산업을 지역 특화 산업으로 육성하기 위한 중장기 비전의 첫 번째 결실을 맺었다.
시는 지난 25일 동국대학교 바이오메디캠퍼스(BMC)에서 '커피연구지원센터 구축 지원사업 성과공유회 및 현판식'을 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이날 행사에는 한철희 고양시농업기술센터소장, 성정석 동국대 BMC 부총장, 이광근 동국커피연구센터장, 김대영 바이오시스템대학장 등 관계자들이 참석해 그간의 운영 성과를 공유했다.

이번 사업은 지난 2024년 12월 발표된 '고양특례시 커피산업 육성 기본계획'의 일환으로 추진됐다.
시는 동국대학교와 업무협약을 체결하고, 대학의 우수한 연구 인프라를 지역 산업에 접목해 과학적이고 체계적인 협력 체계를 구축해 왔다.
동국대학교 상영바이오관에 위치한 동국커피연구센터는 커피 내 유해물질 및 풍미·색감 분석, 휘발성 화합물 분석, 관능평가 등 전문적인 분석 체계를 갖추고 있다.
이를 바탕으로 지역 내 50개 커피업체를 대상으로 로스팅 단계별 데이터 구축 및 가이드라인 제공, 원두 성분 분석 컨설팅을 진행하며 현장 중심의 기술 지원을 펼쳤다.
특히 자금과 장비 문제로 자체적인 품질 분석이 어려웠던 소규모 업체들은 이번 지원을 통해 과학적 데이터를 기반으로 품질 일관성을 확보하고 제품 신뢰도를 높이는 등 실질적인 혜택을 누린 것으로 나타났다.
이는 고양시 커피산업의 표준화를 위한 중요한 이정표로 평가된다.
고양시 관계자는 "과학적인 분석을 통한 품질 개선과 현장 맞춤형 기술 지원을 지속해 고양시 커피산업의 경쟁력을 한 단계 더 끌어올리겠다"고 강조했다.

The event was attended by Han Cheol-hee, Director of the Goyang Agricultural Technology Center; Sung Jeong-seok, Vice President of Dongguk University's BMC; Lee Kwang-geun, Director of the Dongguk Coffee Research Center; and Kim Dae-young, Dean of the College of Biosystems. This is considered a significant milestone in the standardization of the coffee industry in Goyang City.
