[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 26일 글로벌도시 관광진흥기구(TPO) 강다은 사무총장이 김해시를 방문해 홍태용 시장과 올해 김해에서 개최되는 ‘2026 TPO 한국 지역회의’ 준비 상황과 향후 국제 관광 협력 방안을 논의했다.
오는 7월 김해시 일원에서 열리는 ‘2026 TPO 한국 지역회의’는 국내 약 50개 TPO 회원도시 관계자와 관광 전문가들이 참여해 한국 관광 산업의 발전 방향을 논의하는 연례 행사다.
김해시는 처음으로 한국 지역회의를 개최하는 만큼, 관광 거점 도시로서의 경쟁력과 매력을 국내외에 선보이는 데 역량을 집중한다.
이번 만남은 지난해 9월 베트남에서 열린 TPO 총회에서 김해시가 차기 총회 개최지로 선정된 이후 협력 체계를 강화하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 주요 논의 내용은 ▲2026 TPO 한국 지역회의 세부 일정 확정 ▲2027 TPO 총회 준비 계획 ▲해외 청년 대상 한국 문화·언어 체험 프로그램(K-CLIP) 연계 방안 등이다.
김해시는 2027년에 개최 예정인 TPO 총회의 성공적인 개최를 위해 협력 체계를 강화하고, 대규모 국제 관광 행사 유치로 도시 브랜드를 한층 높이고자 한다.
TPO 총회는 2년마다 개최되는 기구 최대 행사로, 약 8개국 40여 개 도시에서 300여 명의 관광 관계자가 참가하는 국제회의로 지역 경제 활성화와 도시 위상 제고에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
김해시는 또 2026~2027년 TPO 공동회장 도시로서 향후 2년간 다양한 국제 행사에 참여하며 글로벌 관광 네트워크를 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
올해는 ▲3월 경주에서 열리는 제46차 TPO 집행위원회(EXCOM) 참석 ▲7월 한국 지역회의 개최 ▲9월 대만 타이중에서 개최되는 제10차 TPO 포럼 참가 ▲10월 부산에서 열리는 제2회 글로벌 도시관광 서밋 참석 등이 예정돼 있으며 이를 통해 김해 관광자원을 국제사회에 적극 알릴 예정이다.
