우희종 회장은 취임사를 통해 한국마사회의 역할과 공공적 가치를 강조하며, 새로운 도약을 위해 기관이 나아가야 할 방향과 책임을 밝혔다.
먼저, 우 회장은 “지난 100년간 한국마사회가 단순한 경마 시행기관을 넘어 대한민국 말산업 발전의 중심축으로 기능해 왔다”며 “ 경마 시행을 통한 세수 기여, 말산업 육성과 승마 문화 확산, 일자리 창출 및 산업 부가가치 제고 등 다양한 측면에서 국가와 사회에 중요한 역할을 수행해 왔다. 이러한 성과는 임직원과 관계자, 그리고 전임 회장들의 헌신 덕분이다”고 말했다.

우 회장은 향후 한국마사회 운영 방향에 대해 △경마와 승마의 선순환 성장 △인식 개선 및 과도한 정부 규제 완화 △이해관계자와의 소통 확대를 위해 힘쓰겠다는 의지를 전했다. 이를 통해 한국마사회가 국민과 사회에 기여하는 공기업으로 한 단계 더 도약해야 한다는 비전을 제시했다.
