[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 27일 기장군 장안읍에서 ‘동남권 방사선 의·과학 일반산업단지’ 준공식을 열고, 방사선 의·과학과 전력반도체 산업이 융합된 미래 산업 거점으로 본격 육성할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
산업단지 개요와 추진 경과
이 산업단지는 방사선 연구와 의학, 산업을 융합한 첨단 집적지로, 2010년 기본·실시설계 용역을 시작으로 16년 만에 조성을 마쳤다.
기본계획 승인(2012년)과 착공(2014년) 이후 ▲수출용 신형연구로 부지 조성(2015년) ▲중입자가속기 치료센터 건축(2016년) ▲파워반도체 상용화센터 준공(2019년) ▲전력반도체 소재·부품·장비 특화단지 지정(2023년) ▲부산형 2차 기회발전특구 지정(2024년) 등 단계적으로 기반을 다져왔다.
첨단 연구·의료 인프라 집적지
단지에는 수출용 신형연구로와 중입자 치료센터, 동남권 원자력의학원, 방사성동위원소 융합연구기반시설, 파워반도체 상용화센터 등 핵심 인프라가 구축되거나 조성 중이다.
이들은 각기 다른 목적을 가지면서도 방사선 기술을 중심으로 연구, 의료, 산업 기능을 유기적으로 연계해 시너지를 낼 전망이다.
부산시는 전력반도체 및 관련 기업의 입주가 이어지면 지역 산업 경쟁력 강화와 양질의 일자리 창출 효과가 클 것으로 내다보고 있다.

부산 신성장 산업의 중심지로
시는 이번 준공을 계기로 동남권 방사선 의·과학 산업단지를 전력반도체 중심의 첨단산업 허브로 육성해 부산 산업 전반의 혁신을 견인한다는 구상이다.
특히 남부권 반도체 혁신벨트와 연계해 연구개발, 상용화, 수출이 이어지는 산업 생태계를 완성한다는 목표를 세웠다.
박형준 시장은 “이 산업단지는 세계적인 방사선 의·과학 산업 집적지로 성장할 잠재력을 갖췄다”며 “기업하기 좋은 글로벌 허브도시로 도약할 수 있도록 인프라와 투자환경을 지속적으로 개선해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

High-Tech Industrial Cluster Completed After 16 Years
The industrial complex, located in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, has been under development since 2010 as part of Busan’s long-term strategy to build a future-oriented growth engine.
Key milestones include the approval of the master plan in 2012, construction commencement in 2014, site development for the new research reactor in 2015, completion of the heavy ion therapy center in 2016, and the opening of the Power Semiconductor Commercialization Center in 2019.
In recent years, the area has been designated as a specialized cluster for materials, parts, and equipment in the power semiconductor sector (2023) and as Busan’s second Opportunity Development Zone (2024).
Fusion of Research, Medicine, and Industry
The complex houses — or is preparing to house — major facilities such as the 'New Research Reactor for Export', Heavy Ion Treatment Center, Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences, Radioisotope Integrated Research Infrastructure, and the Power Semiconductor Commercialization Center.
These facilities form a converged base where radiation science supports both cutting-edge research and medical applications, strengthening the region’s innovation ecosystem.
Busan expects these developments to attract high-tech enterprises, create quality jobs, and boost regional economic vitality.
A Core of Busan’s Future Growth
With the completion of the complex, the city plans to further connect it with the Southern Semiconductor Innovation Belt to establish a full industrial chain — from R&D and commercialization to export.
“The Dongnam Radiation Science Industrial Complex will become a global convergence center for radiological science and a strategic hub for the power semiconductor industry,” Mayor Park said. “Busan will continue its efforts to evolve into a global hub city that offers the best environment for enterprise and innovation.”
