박용주 지청장은 지난 3월 3일, 구리시에 거주하는 독립유공자 故원일만 지사의 손녀 자택을 방문하여 대통령표창을 직접 전수했다.

이번 전수는 독립운동에 투신한 선열의 숭고한 희생을 기리고, 유족에게 국가 차원의 합당한 예우를 다하기 위해 추진되었다.
이번에 대통령표창이 추서된 故원일만 지사는 1919년 3월 31일, 당시 경기도 양주군(현 남양주시) 진접면 부평리에서 독립만세운동에 참여하다 체포되는 등 독립을 위해 투쟁한 공로를 인정받았다.
포상을 받은 유족은 “선조의 숭고한 희생이 오늘에서야 제대로 인정받은 것 같아 감회가 새롭다”며, “이번 포상이 가족 모두에게 큰 자부심과 위로가 된다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

유 지사는 1932년 6월 전남 영암군에서 청년 70여 명과 함께 소작권 이동 등에 항의하는 시위를 주도하며 항일 정신을 몸소 실천한 인물이다.
이번 전달식은 고령으로 인해 지청 방문이 어려운 유족들을 배려하여 지청장이 직접 가정을 방문하는 방식으로 진행되어 그 의미를 더했다.
