【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=박대기 국민의힘 포항시장 예비후보가 산업 중심 도시인 포항에 문화와 관광을 결합한 발전 전략을 담은 ‘2030 포항 문화·관광 비전’을 발표했다.
박 예비후보는 5일 “포항이 대한민국 산업의 심장이지만 산업만으로는 도시의 체온을 높일 수 없다”며 “문화와 관광을 통해 찾고 싶고 머물고 싶은 도시를 만들어 지속가능한 발전을 이루겠다”고 밝혔다.
그는 형산강과 영일만, 호미반도를 연결하는 ‘영일만 국가정원 프로젝트’를 핵심 사업으로 제시했다. 지방정원 지정을 시작으로 단계적으로 국가정원 승격을 추진하고, 철강과 수소 등 포항의 산업 정체성을 반영한 ‘산업 테마 정원’을 도입한다는 구상이다.
또 도심과 해안을 연결하는 관광 인프라 확충 계획도 밝혔다. 철길숲에서 유강 상생숲길 인도교, 형산강 북쪽 강변, 송도해변, 포항운하, 죽도시장, 중앙상가, 구 포항역까지 이어지는 약 18㎞ 구간의 ‘시티 트레일’을 정비해 도심 관광과 레저를 결합한 코스로 조성하겠다는 계획이다. 이와 함께 해파랑길의 단절 구간을 보완해 전국 대표 해안 트레일 코스로 육성하겠다고 밝혔다.
박 예비후보는 지난해 12월 국내 최초로 지정된 호미반도 국가해양생태공원 사업도 적극 추진하겠다고 강조했다. 총사업비 1,296억 원 규모로 예비타당성 조사가 진행 중인 호미반도 보전센터, 심해체험 바다학교, 해중생태복원사업에 더해 생태 관광 루트 개발과 해양생태 체험·연구센터 건립, 야간 관광 활성화 방안도 검토할 계획이다. 이를 통해 연간 관광객 2,000만 명 유치와 평균 체류기간 3일 이상을 목표로 제시했다.
동해안 해양레저 산업 육성 방안도 포함됐다. 박 예비후보는 퇴역 선박을 활용해 해저에 인공 다이빙 포인트를 조성하는 ‘난파선 인공어초 기반 스킨스쿠버 다이빙 명소 조성 사업’을 추진해 포항을 동해안 대표 다이빙 관광지로 만들겠다고 밝혔다.
이와 함께 KTX 포항역, 죽도시장, 영일대, 스페이스워크, 스틸야드, PARK1538, 호미곶 등을 연결하는 순환형 관광버스 도입 계획도 제시했다. 관광객 이동 편의를 높여 체류형 관광을 확대하겠다는 구상이다.
박 예비후보는 지역 예술단 운영 지원을 위해 ‘1사 1예술단 자매결연’ 추진과 국제 공연·축제 유치 계획도 밝혔다.
그는 “문화와 관광은 단순한 이벤트가 아니라 도시 구조를 바꾸는 산업 전략”이라며 “산업수도 포항의 기반 위에 정원과 해양, 예술과 축제를 결합해 도시의 체질을 바꾸겠다”고 말했다.
