5일 오후 김 예비후보는 경산 중산자이 2단지 스카이라운지에서 개최된 아파트 커뮤니티 토크콘서트에 초청 연사로 참석했다. ‘내 아이 교육을 넘어, 지역과 국가의 미래로’라는 주제로 진행된 이 자리에서는 대규모 유세 대신 아파트 내 조용한 공간에서 중산지구 학부모들과 허심탄회하게 대화를 나눴다. 참석자들은 경산 지역 교육환경 개선에 대한 다양한 생각을 자유롭게 공유했다.
이날 대화의 중심에는 ‘탈(脫) 경산’ 현상이 자리했다. 자녀가 고학년에 접어들면 학부모들이 대구 수성구 등 인근 학군지로 이주를 고민하는 현실이 지적됐다. 이에 대해 김 예비후보는 “유명 학원가를 찾아 지역을 떠나는 것이 정답이 될 수는 없다”며 “물리적 이동보다는 교육의 질적 전환이 필요하다”고 말했다.
또한 그는 “아이들이 굳이 경산을 떠나지 않아도 전국 최고 수준의 교육 경쟁력을 누릴 수 있도록 교육 시스템을 재설계하겠다”며 “지역에 머무르는 것 자체가 곧 교육 경쟁력인 구조를 만들겠다”고 강조했다.
김 예비후보는 교육 현장과 대학 행정을 모두 경험한 인물로, 의성고 교사 출신에 미국 위스콘신대학교 매디슨에서 수학 박사 학위를 받았다. 대학수학능력시험 수리영역 출제위원장을 거쳤고, 제18대 경북대학교 총장과 경상북도인재평생교육재단 대표이사를 역임했다.
현장에 참석한 한 학부모는 “단순히 공약을 일방적으로 설명하는 것이 아니라 우리 지역 학부모들의 고민을 듣고 즉각 대안을 제시하는 모습이 인상적이었다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
한편, 김 예비후보는 이번 중산지구 방문을 시작으로 경북 각 지역을 돌며 교육 현장의 목소리를 직접 청취하고, 지역별 맞춤 교육혁신 방안을 순차적으로 내놓을 계획이다.
김 예비후보는 “좋은 교육을 위해 지역을 떠나야 한다는 통념을 깨고, 지역에서 아이를 키우는 것이 학부모의 자부심이 되도록 책임 있는 교육 파트너가 되겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.

A parent in attendance remarked, "It was impressive that he didn't simply explain his pledges, but listened to the concerns of parents in our region and immediately proposed alternatives."
Meanwhile, starting with his visit to the Jungsan district, prospective candidate Kim plans to tour various regions of Gyeongbuk Province to directly hear voices from the educational field and sequentially propose customized educational innovation plans for each region.
Pre-candidate Kim expressed his aspirations, saying, "I will break the stereotype that one must leave the region to achieve a good education, and become a responsible educational partner who ensures that raising children in the region becomes a source of pride for parents."
