【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대경대학교 한류캠퍼스 태권도과 학생들이 ‘2026 전국종별태권도선수권대회’에서 금메달 2개와 동메달 3개를 따내며 눈에 띄는 성과를 거뒀다. 대한태권도협회가 주최한 이번 대회는 전남 순천에서 개최됐다.
대경대 남양주 캠퍼스 태권도과 소속 선수들은 68kg급에서 박지훈, 홍성주 두 선수가 나란히 금메달을 차지했다. 이어 80kg급 전민준, 63kg급 오병인, 54kg급 김동우가 동메달을 목에 걸면서 모두 5개의 메달을 얻었다.
특히 이번 입상자 전원이 올해 입학한 신입생(26학번)이라는 점에서, 대경대 태권도과가 신인 육성에 강점을 보이고 있다는 평가가 나온다.
전국종별태권도선수권대회는 주로 주요 입상 경험이 없는 선수들에게 출전 기회를 제공하는 대회다. 신예들의 등용문 역할을 하는 만큼, 대경대 태권도과 선수들의 이번 실적은 전국 무대 경쟁력을 다시 한 번 확인시켰다.
강보현 지도교수는 선수 시절 2010년 광저우 아시안게임과 2013년 동아시아태권도선수권대회에서 동메달을 땄으며, 2020년 도쿄 올림픽에서는 여성 최초 태권도 코치로 활동한 바 있다.
강 교수는 “올해부터 대회에 전자호구가 전면 도입됐다. 전자호구에 맞는 기술과 전략 훈련에 집중한 것이 좋은 결과로 이어졌다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

Athletes from the Taekwondo Department at Daekyung University's Namyangju Campus won gold medals in the 68kg class: Park Ji-hoon and Hong Seong-ju. Jeon Min-jun, Oh Byeong-in, and Kim Dong-woo each earned bronze medals in the 80kg, 63kg, and 54kg, respectively, for a total of five medals.
Notably, all of the winners were freshmen (class of '26), demonstrating the Daekyung University Taekwondo Department's strength in nurturing new talent.
The National Taekwondo Championships primarily provide opportunities for athletes without prior major medals. As a gateway for rising stars, the recent achievements of the Taekwondo Department at Daekyung University have once again demonstrated their competitiveness on the national stage.
As an athlete, Professor Kang Bo-hyun won bronze medals at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and the 2013 East Asian Taekwondo Championships. She also served as the first female Taekwondo coach at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Professor Kang commented, "Electronic protectors have been fully implemented in competitions this year. Our focus on training techniques and strategies tailored to the electronic protectors has led to excellent results."
