의정부시는 2026년 체육진흥계획을 전격 수립하고 ▲누구나 함께하는 생활체육 활성화 ▲미래 인재 및 엘리트 체육 육성 ▲모두를 위한 체육 인프라 조성 등 3대 핵심 분야, 19개 주요 사업을 본격적으로 추진한다고 10일 밝혔다.

가장 먼저 시민 체감도가 높은 '생활체육 활성화'에 행정력을 집중한다. 취약계층을 위한 스포츠강좌이용권 지원은 물론, 풀코스를 새롭게 도입한 '물길 전국 마라톤 대회' 등을 개최해 생활체육의 저변을 넓힌다. 특히 2027년 경기도에서 열리는 전국체육대회 자전거 종목 유치에 대비해 경기장 전면 개보수에 나서는 등 대규모 대회 유치 역량도 끌어올린다.
