또한 “논란이 불거졌을 때 책임 있는 결단으로 일찍 물러났다면 행정 공백을 줄일 수 있었을 것”이라며 “소속 정당 역시 이번 사태에 대해 책임 있게 사과하고 재발 방지 대책을 내놓아야 한다”고 촉구했다.
양 위원장은 “다가오는 지방선거가 동구 주민들이 어떤 기준으로 후보를 선택하는지 보여주는 계기가 될 것”이라며 “주민의 삶을 우선에 두지 않는 후보, 불법적 수단을 서슴지 않는 후보, 공직자의 부정과 무책임에 책임지지 않는 정당은 선택받기 어려울 것”이라고 강조했다.
그러면서 “이번처럼 구청장 부재로 인한 공백의 시간을 메우는 첫걸음은, 주민들이 일하는 사람을 제대로 가려내 뽑는 데 있다”며, 후보 검증과 책임 정치의 중요성을 덧붙였다.
한편, 대법원 제3부는 이날 정치자금법 위반 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 윤 전 구청장에게 벌금 200만 원을 선고한 2심 판결을 확정했다. 공직선거법에 따르면 선거비용 관련 위반으로 벌금 100만 원 이상의 형이 확정될 경우, 당선이 무효가 된다.
