[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 숲 자원을 활용한 다양한 체험 교육 프로그램을 운영해 가족 단위 관광 활성화와 지역 산림문화 확산을 위한 신포숲 목재문화체험장이 본격 공사에 들어갔다.
의령군은 11일 칠곡면 신포리에 위치한 옛 전경대 부지에서 신포숲 목재문화체험장 조성 착공식을 개최했다.
의령군 신포숲 목재문화체험장은 2022년 7월 산림청 공모사업에 선정된 이후 설계공모 등 사전 행정절차를 거쳐 2027년 상반기 완공을 목표로 본격적인 공사에 들어간다.
사업 대상지인 칠곡면 신포리의 옛 509전경대 터는 1993년 폐쇄된 이후 30여 년 동안 생활관 건물만 남아 있던 곳이다.
군은 정부 소유 부지를 산림 부산물 파쇄장으로 활용하다가 2019년 매입했으며 이후 주변 부지를 추가 확보해 국가산림문화자산인 신포숲과 연계한 산림문화 공간 조성을 추진해 왔다.
목재문화체험장은 부지면적 6700㎡, 지상 2층, 연면적 757㎡ 규모로 조성되며 실내 목재놀이터 목재 체험실 목재 홍보관 카페테리아 등 다양한 시설이 들어선다.
오태완 군수는 "신포숲은 자연의 아름다움과 생태적 가치를 체험할 수 있는 소중한 공간"이라며 "모든 세대가 숲의 가치와 매력을 느낄 수 있도록, 목재문화체험장을 뜻깊은 산림문화 공간으로 조성하겠다"고 말했다.
한편 신포숲은 약 3700평 규모의 소나무와 참나무 군락지로 2019년 국가산림문화자산으로 지정된 의령의 대표적인 숲이다.

Construction has begun on the Shinpo Forest Wood Culture Experience Center, which aims to promote family tourism and local forest culture by operating various experiential education programs utilizing forest resources.
Uiryeong County held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Shinpo Forest Wood Culture Experience Center on the 11th at the former site of the Jeonkyungdae (Korean Forest Service) in Shinpo-ri, Chilgok-myeon.
The Uiryeong County Shinpo Forest Wood Culture Experience Center will begin construction in earnest after undergoing preliminary administrative procedures, including a design competition, following a selection by the Korea Forest Service in July 2022. Construction is slated for completion in the first half of 2027.
The site of the former 509 Jeonkyungdae (Korean Forest Service) in Shinpo-ri, Chilgok-myeon, the project site, has been occupied by only the dormitory building for over 30 years since its closure in 1993.

Governor Oh Tae-wan stated, "Shinpo Forest is a precious space where people can experience the beauty and ecological value of nature. We will develop the Wood Culture Experience Center into a meaningful forest culture space so that people of all generations can appreciate the value and charm of forests."
Meanwhile, Shinpo Forest, a pine and oak forest spanning approximately 3,700 pyeong (approximately 12,000 square feet), is a representative forest in Uiryeong and was designated a National Forest Cultural Asset in 2019.
