브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 현대백화점은 사단법인 한국브리지협회와 함께 ‘2026 브리지 챔피언십’ 대회을 연다고 13일 밝혔다.
브리지는 2대 2로 팀을 나눠 52장의 카드로 치열한 두뇌 싸움을 벌이는 전략 스포츠로, 바둑과 체스 등과 함께 국제올림픽위원회(IOC)에서 공식 인증을 받았다.
현대백화점은 2008년부터 브리지 대중화를 위해 전국 문화센터에서 브리지 강좌와 토너먼트 대회를 운영해 오고 있다.
올해 챔피언십 대회는 압구정본점 등 현대백화점 8개 점포에서 진행된다. 지난 11일 첫 대회를 진행한 압구정본점을 시작으로 목동점(4월), 판교점(5월), 신촌점(6월), 더현대 대구(8월), 더현대 서울(9월), 충청점(10월)에서 순차적으로 진행된다. 각 대회별로 획득한 점수를 바탕으로 오는 12월 무역센터점에서 최종 우승자를 가리는 그랜드 파이널 대회가 열릴 예정이다.
앞으로도 현대백화점은 한국브리지협회와 함께 건전한 브리지 게임 문화 확산에 나설 계획이다. 현대백화점은 문화센터 강좌 운영을 비롯해, 국가대표 브리지 선수를 강사로 초빙하고 시즌별 콘셉트에 맞춘 대회 콘텐츠를 선보이는 등 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있다.
현대백화점 관계자는 “한국브리지협회와 함께 누구나 쉽게 배우면서도 오래 즐길 수 있는 두뇌 스포츠인 브리지를 국민 건강 스포츠로 육성해 나갈 것”라며 “문화센터가 지적 즐거움과 문화적 가치를 함께 경험할 수 있는 지역 사회 커뮤니티 역할을 하도록 다양한 콘텐츠를 지속 선보여 나갈 것이다”고 말했다.
