【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=오는 6월 3일 치러지는 제9회 전국동시지방선거를 앞두고 포항시장 선거에 나선 예비후보들이 선거문화 개선 제안과 교육 공약 발표, 시민 소통 확대 등 각기 다른 행보를 이어가며 본격적인 경쟁을 벌이고 있다.

모성은 포항시장 예비후보는 16일 포항시청 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 포항시장 출마자들이 힘을 모아 선진 선거문화 정착에 나서자고 제안했다.
모 예비후보는 최근 선거운동이 가열되면서 후진국형 선거행태가 도를 넘고 있다며 각 캠프에서 생산되는 흑색선전을 중단하고 상대 후보 간 고소·고발도 모두 취하하자고 밝혔다. 또한 마타도어와 비방 대신 정책 중심의 선거가 이뤄질 수 있도록 후보자 간 상호 정책토론의 장을 만들자고 제안했다.
그는 “토론은 공중파 방송뿐 아니라 소규모 인터넷 방송 등 다양한 방식으로 추진할 수 있다”며 “이 같은 선진 선거문화가 정착될 때 포항 발전을 기대할 수 있다”고 강조했다.
모 후보는 자신을 둘러싼 흑색선전에 대해서도 입장을 밝혔다. 그는 “포항지진 범대본 의장이 지진소송 비용을 받아 챙겼다거나 소송 패소로 시민의 돈을 날렸다는 내용이 유포되고 있다”며 “자신은 변호사가 아니기 때문에 소송 수임료를 받을 수 없으며 해당 주장들은 사실과 다르다”고 반박했다.
또한 포항 지진피해 손해배상 소송과 관련해 “자신은 1심에서 승소한 선정당사자이며 현재 사건은 대구고등법원 민사3부에서 2심 변론이 진행 중”이라며 “지난해 5월 대구고법에서 패소한 사건은 자신과 무관한 별도의 사건”이라고 설명했다.
모 후보는 국민의힘 중앙당 1차 면접 이후 후보 간 마타도어가 더욱 확산되고 있다며 이를 조기에 차단하지 않으면 포항 전역이 흑색선전의 장이 될 수 있다고 우려했다.

같은 날 박용선 포항시장 예비후보는 공교육 경쟁력 강화를 중심으로 한 교육 분야 공약을 발표했다.
박 예비후보는 사교육비 증가와 지역 고교의 대학 진학 실적 약화로 공교육 경쟁력이 흔들리고 있다며 지역 대학과 연계한 교육 지원 네트워크 구축을 통해 포항을 지방 최고의 교육명문 도시로 조성하겠다고 밝혔다.
이를 위해 ▲포항교육재단 설립 ▲지역 고교 대학 진학 역량 강화 지원 ▲연령대별 지니어스 교육센터 운영 등 3대 핵심 교육 공약을 제시했다.
포항교육재단은 포항시 장학회를 교육재단으로 전환해 설립하는 방안을 검토하고, 연령대별 맞춤형 교육 정책 연구와 프로그램 개발을 통해 지역 교육 경쟁력을 높이는 역할을 맡게 된다. 특히 인공지능(AI)과 로봇 등 미래 기술 기반 교육 프로그램을 운영해 미래 인재 양성에도 나설 계획이다.
또한 지역 대학과 연계한 전공 특강, 탐구보고서 작성 지도, 대학 연구실 탐방, 대학생 멘토링 등을 통해 고교생들의 학교생활기록부 경쟁력을 강화하고 전문 진학 컨설턴트를 활용한 맞춤형 대입 컨설팅도 제공하겠다고 밝혔다.
이와 함께 유아와 초·중학생을 대상으로 재능과 영재성을 조기에 발견할 수 있는 ‘지니어스 교육센터’를 운영해 진로 설계 지원과 사교육비 부담 완화에도 나설 방침이다.
박 예비후보는 “포항의 교육 경쟁력을 높이는 것은 도시 미래 경쟁력을 좌우하는 핵심 과제”라며 “포항 교육을 수도권과 경쟁하는 전국 선두권 수준으로 끌어올리겠다”고 말했다.

이칠구 포항시장 예비후보도 이날 유권자의 약 10%에 해당하는 2만4천여 세대를 대상으로 예비후보자 홍보물을 발송하며 시민 소통에 나섰다.
홍보물에는 ‘내 일상을 바꿀 첫 번째 시장’이라는 슬로건과 함께 포항의 변화와 혁신을 위한 비전이 담겼다.
이 예비후보는 “대한민국 산업화의 심장이었던 포항이 산업 전환과 인구 감소 등 복합적인 위기에 놓여 있다”며 “당선 직후 100일 안에 포항의 체질을 바꾸는 시정 혁신에 나서겠다”고 밝혔다.
이를 위해 포항시정 혁신위원회를 구성하고 시정 우선혁신 100대 과제를 선정하는 한편 민·관·산·정 정책협의체를 정례화하는 방안을 제시했다.
또 핵심 비전인 ‘포항 2·7·9 프로젝트’를 통해 행정과 투자 속도를 두 배로 높여 시민들이 체감할 수 있는 경제 성장을 이루겠다는 구상도 밝혔다.
이 예비후보는 “기업 투자 결정부터 착공까지 기간을 절반으로 단축하고 예산 집행 구조 개선과 민원 처리 속도 혁신 등을 통해 포항 발전의 속도를 높이겠다”며 “25년 경영 경험과 5선 지방의원으로서의 의정 경험을 바탕으로 시민의 삶을 바꾸는 준비된 시장이 되겠다”고 강조했다.
