[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산에서 아파트 복도에서 현직 항공사 기장을 살해한 50대 전직 부기장에 대한 추가 수사 내용이 18일 공개됐다.
경찰에 따르면 피의자는 이번 사건과 함께 경기도 일산에서 발생한 전 동료 기장 살해 시도 사건을 포함해 전 직장 동료 기장 4명을 살해할 계획을 3년 전부터 준비해 온 것으로 진술했다. 부산 피해자에 대한 살인은 실행됐고, 일산에서는 살해를 시도하다가 미수로 끝난 것으로 파악된다. 경기도 일산 사건과의 병합 수사는 현재 검토 단계에 있다.
범행 동기와 관련해서는 직장 내 갈등과 퇴직 과정에서의 불만이 주요 배경으로 보이지만, 정확한 동기와 심리적 상태는 정밀 조사가 진행 중이다. 경찰은 피의자가 기장 승진 경쟁과 자진 퇴사 과정에서 겪은 대우 문제 등에 대해 심한 불만을 품고 있었던 것으로 보고 있다.
또한 피의자가 창원으로 이동한 이유에 대해, 경찰은 창원에 거주하는 전 직장 동료 1명을 살해하기 위해 이동한 것으로 파악했다. 다만 창원 도착 후 바로 범행을 실행하기 어렵다고 판단해, 수사망을 피하기 위해 울산으로 이동한 것으로 조사됐다. 울산에는 살인 계획 대상이 없었고, 은신을 위해 단순히 선택한 지역으로 파악된다.
피의자의 정신질환 여부와 관련해서는 향후 심층 조사가 진행될 예정이며, 프로파일러와 심리 전문가 투입을 통해 사이코패스 검사 등 정신 상태 분석을 적극 검토하고 있다는 방침이다. 경찰은 피의자 소지 캐리어에서 범행에 사용된 흉기를 압수했으며, 구체적 범행 경위와 추가 계획을 조사한 뒤 살인 혐의로 구속영장을 신청할 방침이다.

A 50‑year‑old former first officer who killed an active airline captain in the hallway of an apartment building in Busan has told investigators that the attack was part of a long‑term plan to kill four former colleagues.
According to police, the suspect admitted planning to murder four former pilots, all captains, over a period of about three years. Along with the victim in Busan, he also attempted to kill another former colleague in Ilsan, Goyang, the day before the Busan killing, but that attack failed. Authorities are considering whether to combine the Ilsan case into a single, consolidated investigation.
Police say the suspect’s motive appears rooted in workplace conflicts, including disputes over promotions and dissatisfaction with how he left the airline, but they stress that the exact psychological background is still under examination. Investigators believe the suspect harbored deep resentment toward several former coworkers and prepared the attacks over an extended period.
The suspect also told police that he traveled to Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, to target another former colleague living there. After arriving, he decided it would be difficult to carry out the attack immediately and instead moved to Ulsan to evade the manhunt. Authorities say Ulsan had no additional murder targets and was used only as a temporary hideout.
Police are now reviewing the suspect’s mental health in more detail and are considering deploying a profiler and conducting psychopathy assessments. A knife used in the Busan attack was seized from the suspect’s suitcase, and authorities plan to request an arrest warrant on murder charges after completing a detailed interrogation into his motives and any further planned attacks.
