김 사장은 이날 경주 한수원 본사에서 열린 취임식에서 “승풍파랑(乘風破浪)의 정신으로 세계 원자력 산업에서 도약하자”고 강조하며 본격적인 경영 행보에 나섰다.
김 사장은 향후 경영 방향으로 ▲안전 최우선 ▲가동 중 설비의 안정적 운영과 효율성 제고 ▲신규 원전 건설의 차질 없는 추진 ▲방사성폐기물 관리 및 사회적 수용성 확보 ▲원전 해체 기술력 강화 ▲에너지 전환 대응 미래 경쟁력 확보 ▲해외 사업 확대 ▲국민과 지역사회 신뢰 확보 등을 제시했다.
특히 “안전성 확보는 한수원의 존립 기반”이라며 설비 이상 상황에 대한 철저한 대비와 안전 중심의 건설 관리 필요성을 강조했다. 아울러 방사성폐기물 관리 전문성 강화와 신규 양수발전소 건설, 노후 수력·양수발전소 현대화 추진도 주요 과제로 언급했다.
해외 사업과 관련해서는 대형 원전과 소형모듈원자로(SMR)를 병행하는 ‘투트랙 전략’을 통해 글로벌 시장 공략에 나서겠다는 구상도 밝혔다. 기존 수주 사업의 안정적 수행과 함께 국가별 맞춤형 전략으로 신규 시장 개척을 추진하겠다는 방침이다.
노사 관계와 지역사회 소통 의지도 강조했다. 김 사장은 “겸손과 경청을 바탕으로 지역사회와 신뢰를 쌓고, 노사 간 상시 소통 채널을 활성화해 경영에 반영하겠다”고 밝혔다. 실제로 취임 첫날 노조 사무실을 방문해 노조원들과 간담회를 갖는 등 협력 의지를 드러냈다.
취임 직후에는 ‘중동 사태 관련 비상경영 점검회의’를 주재하고 원전 운영 현황과 해외 사업장 안전, 원전 연료 공급망 등을 점검하며 안정적 전력 수급 대응을 주문했다.
이어 고리원자력본부를 찾아 현장경영을 펼쳤다. 김 사장은 고리1호기 해체 현장과 고리2호기 정비 현장을 점검하고 직원들을 격려하며 “원전 운영의 핵심은 안전”이라고 재차 강조했다.
한편 김회천 사장은 1985년 한국전력공사에 입사해 기획처장, 관리본부장, 경영지원부사장 등을 역임했으며, 이후 가천대학교 연구교수와 한국남동발전 사장을 지낸 에너지 분야 전문가다.
