[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국내 최대 규모의 물산업 전문 전시회인 대한민국 국제물산업박람회(WATER KOREA) 2026이 18일 부산 벡스코에서 개막했다. 행사는 기후에너지환경부와 한국상하수도협회가 공동으로 주최하고 오는 20일까지 열린다.
올해로 23번째를 맞은 이번 박람회는 지능형 물관리로 여는 푸른 미래를 주제로 진행된다. 박람회에는 국내외 물산업 관련 기업과 기관, 전문가, 해외 바이어 등 다양한 참가자가 참여했으며, 216개 기업이 부스를 마련해 첨단 기술과 제품을 선보였다.
전시 부문에서는 인공지능을 적용한 스마트 상하수도 시스템, 정보통신기술과 결합한 실시간 수질 관리 장비, 에너지 절감형 정수 기술, 탄소중립 실현을 위한 친환경 설비 등 최신 물관리 기술이 소개됐다.

정부는 이번 행사가 기후위기에 따른 물 부족과 산업용수 수요 증가에 대응하고, 지속가능한 물 관리의 중요성을 확산하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
행사 기간에는 60여 개 해외 구매처가 참여하는 수출 및 구매 상담회가 열려 국내 기업의 해외 진출을 적극 지원한다.
또한 한미 물기술과 물산업 국제토론회, 국제 하수감시 학술세미나, 미래물포럼, 상하수도 업무개선 사례 발표 등 다양한 부대행사가 마련되어 물관리 정책과 기술 발전 방향이 논의된다.
이와 함께 대학과 대학원생을 대상으로 한 논문 공모전, 환경산업 청년 일자리 박람회도 개최돼 물 분야의 미래 인재 발굴에도 나선다.

18일 오전 열린 개막식에는 금한승 기후에너지환경부 제1차관을 비롯해 국내외 주요 인사가 참석했다. 참석자들은 안전하고 깨끗한 물 공급의 중요성을 강조하며 물산업의 세계적 도약 비전을 함께 선포했다. 행사에서는 물관리 발전에 기여한 유공자들에게 정부포상이 수여됐다.
금한승 차관은 국내 기업이 글로벌 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있도록 인공지능 등 미래 유망 기술개발을 확대하고, 물기업의 창업에서 기술 실증, 해외 수출에 이르는 전 과정을 단계별로 지원하겠다고 밝혔다. 그는 또한 지속가능한 물관리를 통해 국가 안보와 산업 경쟁력 강화에 기여하겠다는 정부의 의지를 강조했다.

WATER KOREA 2026, the nation’s largest trade exhibition dedicated to the water industry, opened Wednesday at BEXCO in Busan. The three-day event, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association, runs through March 20.
Marking its 23rd edition this year, the exhibition is held under the theme “Smart Water, Blue Future.” The event brings together domestic and global companies, government agencies, academic experts, and overseas buyers, with 216 participating firms introducing their latest technologies and products.
Showcased innovations include AI-based smart water supply systems, ICT-integrated real-time water quality monitoring devices, energy-efficient purification technologies, and carbon-neutral treatment solutions. The ministry said it expects the exhibition to help address the challenges of rising water demand amid the climate crisis and strengthen sustainability in national water management.
During the event, a global export consultation program will connect more than 60 overseas buyers with Korean companies to support international business cooperation. A series of side programs will also be held, such as the Korea-US Water Technology Forum, the International Sewer Monitoring Seminar, the Future Water Forum, and presentations on advanced utility management practices. A student research contest and a youth job fair for environmental industries aim to foster future talent in the water sector.
At the opening ceremony, attended by Vice Minister Keum Han-seung and domestic and international guests, officials declared a shared vision for the global advancement of Korea’s water industry. Government awards were also presented to individuals recognized for their contributions to safe and sustainable water management.
Vice Minister Keum said the government would expand R&D investment in future-oriented technologies, including artificial intelligence, and strengthen full-cycle support for water companies—from startup and technical validation to overseas expansion. He emphasized that sustainable water management is essential for national security and industrial competitiveness.
