[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 동서대학교 디자인대학이 세계적 디자인 교육자 와타나베 마코토 교수를 석좌교수로 임용하고 글로벌 디자인 교육 협력 확대에 나섰다
동서대학교는 17일 총장실에서 임용식을 열고 와타나베 마코토 교수를 석좌교수로 임용했다. 임용식에는 장제국 총장과 주요 관계자들이 참석해 축하와 함께 국제 디자인 교육 협력 확대 방안을 논의했다
와타나베 교수는 치바대학교 부총장과 일본디자인학회 회장 국제 디자인 교육 네트워크 Cumulus 상임이사를 역임한 인물이다. 그는 아시아와 글로벌 디자인 교육 교류에 기여해 온 전문가로 평가된다
와타나베 교수는 2027년 출범 예정인 스텔라예술대학의 국제화와 교육 혁신을 이끌 핵심 인물로 기대를 모은다. 또한 한중일 디자인 교육 교류를 선도하며 동서대와 치바대 간 협력 확대와 글로벌 캠퍼스 연계 기반 구축에 기여할 전망이다
세미나 개최와 교육 논의
임용식 이후 뉴밀레니엄관에서 디자인대학 교수를 대상으로 세미나가 열렸다. 세미나는 일본 치바대학교의 디자인 교육 사례를 주제로 진행됐으며 현재 교육 시스템과 미래 방향성에 대한 논의가 이어졌다
동서대 관계자는 "이번 임용이 국제 디자인 교육 협력 확대의 중요한 계기가 될 것"이라며 "해외 대학 및 전문가와의 교류를 지속 확대해 학생들에게 수준 높은 글로벌 교육 기회를 제공하겠다"고 말했다

Appointment Ceremony and Discussions
Dongseo University held an appointment ceremony on the 17th at the president office officially naming Watanabe Makoto as a distinguished professor. University President Jang Je kuk and key officials attended the event discussing strategies to expand international collaboration in design education
Global Design Educator Background
Watanabe previously served as vice president of Chiba University president of the Japanese Society for the Science of Design and board member of Cumulus. He is widely recognized for his contributions to design education exchanges across Asia and beyond
Future Role and Expectations
He is expected to play a key role in advancing internationalization and educational innovation at Stella College of Arts set to launch in 2027. As a central figure in the Asian design network he is also anticipated to lead design education exchanges among Korea China and Japan while strengthening cooperation between Dongseo University and Chiba University
Seminar and Academic Exchange
Following the ceremony a seminar for faculty members was held at the university New Millennium Hall. Under the theme of design education at Chiba University participants discussed Japan current design education system and future directions
A university official said the appointment would serve as a meaningful milestone in expanding global design collaboration. The university added it will continue to broaden exchange programs with leading international institutions and experts to provide students with high quality global learning experiences
