포천시는 문화체육관광부와 국민체육진흥공단이 공동 주관한 ‘2026년 가상현실 스포츠실 보급사업’ 공모에 최종 선정돼 국비 7,500만 원을 성공적으로 확보했다고 20일 밝혔다.
이에 따라 시는 포천시장애인체육회와 내촌면 등 2곳에 최첨단 가상현실(VR) 스포츠실을 본격 조성할 예정이다. 이를 통해 폭염이나 혹한, 미세먼지 등 변덕스러운 기상 여건 속에서도 시민 누구나 안전하게 실내 체육을 즐길 수 있는 혁신적인 환경이 마련된다.
특히 이번 사업은 체육시설 접근성이 상대적으로 떨어지는 외곽 지역 주민들은 물론, 야외 활동에 제약을 크게 받는 어르신과 장애인 등 스포츠 취약계층의 생활체육 참여 기회를 획기적으로 넓히는 마중물이 될 것으로 기대를 모은다.
