군은 앞서 2023년 군청 주차장에 무인회수기 1대를 설치해 운영해 왔으며, 주민들의 이용 만족도가 높게 나타나면서 추가 설치를 결정했다.
신규 설치 장소는 유동인구가 많은 증평군립도서관이다.
이번에 도입된 회수기는 AI 기반 자판기 형태의 장비로, 뚜껑과 라벨을 제거한 투명페트병을 투입하면 장치가 자동으로 인식·분류한 뒤 압착 과정을 거쳐 수거하는 방식으로 운영된다.
이용자는 수퍼빈 누리집 또는 모바일 애플리케이션을 통해 회원가입 후 사용할 수 있으며, 투명페트병 1개당 10포인트가 적립된다.
누적 포인트가 2000점 이상이면 현금으로 환전할 수 있어 주민들의 자발적인 참여를 유도한다.
대량의 투명페트병을 보유한 경우 수퍼빈 고객센터에 신청하면 일정 조율 후 현장에서 무게를 측정해 포인트를 적립받을 수 있는 서비스도 제공된다.
군 관계자는 “무인회수기 추가 설치로 주민들이 보다 가까운 곳에서 편리하게 재활용에 참여할 수 있게 됐다”며 “AI 기술을 활용한 자원순환 시스템을 통해 재활용률을 높이고, 생활 속에서 실천하는 친환경 문화가 확산되길 기대한다”고 말했다.
