부천원미서에 따르면, 수사민원상담센터는 2016년 2월 17일 첫 운영을 시작하여 올해 11년째 이어지고 있으며 위촉된 인천지방변호사회 부천지회 소속 변호사 11명은 교대로 매주 월·수·금요일 오후 3시부터 5시까지 수사민원상담센터에 상주하여 방문 민원인에게 무료법률상담을 통해 도움을 제공하고 있다.
수사민원상담센터 사무실은 경찰서내 민원동 1층에 위치하고 있으며, 사전에 예약없이 방문하여도 형사사건은 물론 민사·가사절차 안내 등 변호사의 전문적인 법률상담을 받을 수 있어 지역 주민에게 질 높은 공공 법률서비스 제공기관으로 운영되고 있다.
김형률 부천원미경찰서장은 “전문성을 갖춘 변호사 상담은 시민의 시각으로 인권을 보호하고, 경찰 수사가 형사사건에 집중할 수 있도록 기여하고 있다”며, “형사절차에 대한 이해 부족으로 어려움을 겪는 지역주민들이 전문 변호사 법률상담을 통해서 사건 진행 방향을 명확히 하는데 도움이 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
