이 후보는 23일 발표한 논평에서 국민의힘 공천관리위원회가 주호영 의원과 이진숙 후보를 예비후보 명단에서 제외한 것에 대해 “대구시민의 주권을 짓밟은 결정”이라고 말했다.

또 이정현 공천관리위원장을 향해서도 “경선 원칙이 훼손됐고, 시민의 선택권이 배제됐다”며 “대구시민을 단순한 지지층으로만 바라보는 인식에서 벗어나야 한다”고 주장했다.
이 후보는 이번 사태를 “낡은 정치의 한 단면”이라고 규정하면서 “이제는 중앙당 중심 공천 구조에서 벗어나, 대구시민이 직접 참여하는 시민 주권 정치로 전환해야 한다”고 강조했다.
