충남 천안시의회가 70만 시민의 건강권과 생존권을 위협하는 아산 열병합발전소 건립 사업에 대해 강력한 반대 의사를 공식화했다.
시의회는 23일 열린 제287회 임시회 제1차 본회의에서 김길자 의원이 대표 발의한 ‘아산 열병합발전소 건립 반대 결의안’을 만장일치로 채택하며 사업 백지화를 촉구했다.
이번 결의안 채택은 행정구역이 다르다는 이유로 그간 소외되었던 천안시민의 목소리를 대변하고, 이른바 ‘천안 패싱’ 논란을 정면으로 돌파하겠다는 시의회의 단호한 의지가 반영된 결과다.
김길자 의원은 발의 취지를 통해 시민의 생명을 자본의 논리와 바꿀 수 없음을 강조하며, 인접 지역인 천안시민을 배제한 현행 행정 절차를 바로잡겠다고 선언했다.
시의회가 특히 우려하는 지점은 발전소의 거대한 규모와 지리적 특성에 따른 환경 피해다. 아산시 배방읍에 추진 중인 500MW급 발전소는 원자력 발전소 1기 용량의 절반에 달하는 대규모 시설이다.
