경주지역 대학 전·현직 교수 104명은 23일 주낙영 예비후보 선거사무소를 찾아 지지선언문을 발표하고 “경주의 지속 가능한 발전과 시민 삶의 질 향상을 위해 헌신해 온 주 후보의 3선 도전을 적극 지지한다”고 밝혔다.
이들은 선언문에서 주 예비후보가 민선 7·8기 동안 보여준 행정 성과와 책임감을 높이 평가하며, APEC 유치 성과와 예산 2조 원 시대 개막, 소형모듈원전(SMR) 국가산업단지 유치, e-모빌리티 연구단지 조성, 정부 공모사업 선정 등을 통해 지역 성장 기반을 구축했다고 강조했다.
또 “주 후보는 시민과의 소통과 공감을 바탕으로 시정을 운영해 왔으며, 공정하고 투명한 행정을 통해 지역사회 신뢰를 확보했다”고 덧붙였다.
같은 날 경주지역 라이온스클럽 회장단도 선거사무소를 방문해 지지 의사를 밝혔다. 권오환 5지역위원장을 비롯해 남성 7개, 여성 5개 등 총 12개 클럽 회장단이 참석했으며, 약 600여 명 회원의 뜻을 대표했다.
이들은 “봉사와 책임의 가치가 지역 발전의 기반”이라며 “주 예비후보의 리더십이 경주의 지속적인 성장에 기여할 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.
독도사랑회 자문위원단과 지역 단체 ‘천년향토애’도 잇따라 선거사무소를 찾아 지지 의사를 표명했다. 천년향토애 회원들은 ‘주낙영 시장 3선, 경주 예산 3조 원, 관광객 7천만 명’을 의미하는 ‘3·3·7’ 구호를 외치며 지지를 나타냈다.
앞서 지난 19일에는 경주신중년사관학교 관계자 40명도 선거사무소를 방문해 지지 행렬에 동참했다.
주낙영 예비후보는 “지역 학계와 시민사회 각계의 지지에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “무거운 책임감으로 시민 기대에 부응하겠다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “경주는 중요한 전환의 시기에 서 있는 만큼, 그동안 구축한 기반 위에서 시민 삶의 변화를 이끌고 지역 발전을 지속해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
한편 이번 지지 선언은 주 예비후보를 둘러싼 지역사회의 기대와 신뢰를 반영한 것으로 풀이된다.
