[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 24일 2028 세계디자인수도 추진을 위한 국제컨퍼런스를 개막하고 도시 회복과 지속가능한 발전을 위한 디자인 기반 정책과 실행 전략 논의에 착수했다.
시는 24일 부산항국제전시컨벤션센터에서 2028 세계디자인수도 부산 국제컨퍼런스를 개막했다. 이번 행사는 세계디자인수도 지정을 위한 비전과 추진 전략을 국내외에 알리고 글로벌 협력 네트워크를 강화하기 위해 마련됐다.
디자인을 통한 도시의 회복과 연결을 주제로 열린 이번 행사에는 세계디자인기구 전 회장 글로벌 디자인 기업 대표 해외 대학 총장 등 주요 인사와 디자인 전문가 교수 대학생 시민 등 200여 명이 참석해 높은 관심을 보였다. 사전 등록 단계부터 많은 신청이 이어지며 행사에 대한 기대감을 반영했다.
이번 행사는 ▲개회식과 ▲기조연설 ▲주제 발표 ▲패널 토의 전문 세션 등으로 구성돼 도시와 디자인의 관계를 다각도로 조망한다. ▲기조연설에서는 회복 탄력성과 연결성을 갖춘 도시 디자인 디자인 기반 사회혁신 생태계 가치 지향적 디자인과 국가 경쟁력 등 핵심 의제가 제시됐다. ▲ 뇌과학 공공디자인 공간디자인 등 다양한 분야 전문가들이 참여해 도시 문제 해결을 위한 융합적 해법을 논의하고 있다.
▲전문 세션에서는 미래형 모빌리티인 플라잉카 기술과 글로벌 캐릭터 디자인 사례 등 산업과 문화 영역을 아우르는 다양한 발표가 이어지며 디자인의 확장성과 산업적 가능성을 제시하고 있다.
이번 행사는 학술 논의를 넘어 정책 실행 기반을 마련하는 협력 플랫폼으로 기능한다. 동서대학교 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계 사업과 연계해 산학연 협력 모델 확산과 지역 디자인 혁신 생태계 구축에도 의미를 더한다. 행사 전 과정은 온라인 생중계를 통해 시민 참여를 확대하고 있다.

컨퍼런스 다음 날에는 국내외 연사들이 부산 주요 디자인 현장을 방문하는 디자인스팟 투어가 진행돼 도시 디자인 정책 사례를 공유할 예정이다.
부산시는 이번 컨퍼런스를 통해 세계디자인수도 부산의 국제적 위상을 강화하고 도시 브랜드 가치를 높이는 한편 글로벌 전문가 네트워크 구축과 시민 참여 확대 효과를 기대하고 있다.
시는 23일부터 28일까지를 디자인 주간으로 지정해 시민 참여형 프로그램을 운영한다. 26일에는 시민공감 라운지와 공식 사회관계망 서비스 개설 기념 행사를 통해 시민과의 접점을 넓힐 계획이다.
박형준 시장은 이번 국제컨퍼런스가 세계디자인수도 부산의 방향을 설정하는 출발점이라며 디자인을 통해 시민 삶을 변화시키고 부산을 세계적인 디자인 도시로 도약시키겠다고 밝혔다.

Busan on March 24 opened an international conference to advance its 2028 World Design Capital bid, launching discussions on design driven policies and strategies for urban resilience and sustainable development.
The Busan Metropolitan Government opened the 2028 World Design Capital Busan International Conference at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center. The event is designed to share the city’s vision and roadmap while strengthening global cooperation.
Held under the theme Resilient and Connected by Design, the conference has drawn about 200 participants, including global design leaders, academics, industry experts and citizens, reflecting strong interest from both Korea and abroad.
▲The program features an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, thematic presentations, panel discussions and special sessions, offering a comprehensive view of the relationship between cities and design. ▲Keynotes address resilient and connected urban design, design driven social innovation ecosystems, and value oriented design and national competitiveness. ▲Experts from neuroscience, public design and spatial design are engaging in interdisciplinary discussions on practical solutions to urban challenges.
Special sessions highlight a wide range of industry and cultural cases, including future mobility such as flying cars and global character design, underscoring the expanding role of design across sectors.
The conference also serves as a platform for building policy implementation frameworks beyond academic discussion. It is linked with university led regional innovation initiatives to promote collaboration among industry, academia and research sectors. The entire event is being streamed online to broaden public access and participation.
On the following day, speakers will take part in a design spot tour of major sites in Busan to share urban design policy practices and on site insights.
Busan expects the conference to enhance its global standing as a World Design Capital candidate, strengthen its city brand and expand international expert networks while encouraging broader citizen engagement.
The city has designated March 23 to 28 as Design Week, offering a range of public participation programs. A citizen engagement lounge and a social media launch event will be held on March 26 to further connect with the public.
Mayor Park Heong joon said the conference marks an important starting point in shaping Busan’s future as a design city, adding that the city will strive to improve citizens’ lives through design and elevate Busan to a global design hub.
