<브레이크뉴스 가평 = 이용하 기자> 가평군이 정신질환을 딛고 일어선 당사자들의 생생한 회복 경험을 지역사회 전반으로 확산시키기 위해 전문 인력 양성에 팔을 걷어붙였다.
가평군정신건강복지센터는 오는 3월 31일까지 ‘2026년 동료지원인 양성과정’에 참여할 대상자를 집중 모집한다고 밝혔다. 군은 신청자 가운데 10명 내외를 최종 선발해 다가오는 4월부터 본격적인 실무 교육에 돌입할 예정이다.
‘동료지원인’은 단순한 복지 서비스 수혜자를 넘어, 본인이 직접 겪은 아픔과 극복 과정을 바탕으로 다른 환우들의 회복을 이끄는 주도적인 역할을 수행한다. 이를 통해 당사자들의 사회 참여와 자립을 돕는 것은 물론, 정신질환을 향한 지역사회의 부정적인 인식 개선에도 앞장서게 된다.
센터 측은 지난 2022년부터 꾸준한 교육을 통해 총 22명의 동료지원인을 성공적으로 배출한 바 있다. 이들은 정기적인 간담회와 보수교육을 거치며 현장 실천 역량을 키워왔으며, 특히 이 중 3명은 현재 공공 일자리 사업과 연계되어 개별 상담, 일상생활 지원, 신규 회원 멘토링 등 다양한 복지 현장에서 구슬땀을 흘리고 있다.
가평군정신건강복지센터 관계자는 “동료지원인 제도는 기존의 일방적인 치료 중심에서 환우 스스로의 ‘회복 중심’으로 패러다임이 바뀌는 중요한 전환점”이라며, “이번 양성과정을 통해 더 많은 이들이 자신의 극복 경험을 값진 자산으로 삼아 지역사회에 선한 영향력을 펼치길 기대한다”고 전했다.
