<브레이크뉴스 원주 = 김일웅 기자> 원주시가 새 학기를 맞은 지역 청소년들이 유해 환경의 유혹에서 벗어나 안전하고 건전한 환경에서 학업에 전념할 수 있도록 촘촘한 지역 사회 안전망을 가동했다.
원주시는 지난 25일 우산동 일대 주요 상권 및 학교 주변을 대상으로 청소년 유해환경 감시단과 함께 대대적인 민관 합동 점검 및 캠페인을 실시했다고 27일 밝혔다.
이번 점검은 3월 개학기를 맞아 학생들의 외부 활동이 눈에 띄게 늘어남에 따라 발생할 수 있는 각종 일탈 행위를 선제적으로 예방하고, 청소년 보호에 대한 지역 사회의 관심을 높이기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 캠페인에는 원주시청을 비롯해 원주경찰서, 원주교육지원청, 원주YMCA 청소년 유해환경 감시단, 한국청소년육성회 원주지구회, 바르게살기운동 원주시협의회, 청소년보호연맹 강원연맹 등 지역 내 주요 기관 및 단체 관계자 32명이 대거 참여해 힘을 보탰다.
참가자들은 우산동 일대의 식당과 편의점 등을 일일이 방문해 ▲청소년 고용 및 출입 금지 표시 부착 여부 ▲청소년 대상 주류·담배 판매 금지 준수 여부 등 청소년 보호법 위반 사항을 면밀히 살폈다. 특히 학교 주변과 유해환경 노출이 우려되는 사각지대를 집중 점검하며 업주들에게 청소년 보호의 중요성을 거듭 당부했다.
원주시 관계자는 “개학기 청소년들이 건강하고 즐거운 학교생활을 이어갈 수 있도록 유해 환경 근절에 최선을 다하고이 있다”며, “앞으로도 유관기관과 긴밀히 협력해 우리 아이들이 안심하고 꿈을 키울 수 있는 건전한 생활 환경을 조성해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.
