【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구 서구청장 선거에 출마한 권오상 예비후보가 신도시 개발 이후 심화된 교통 불편을 겨냥한 생활밀착형 공약을 제시했다.
권 후보는 “평리뉴타운 등 신축 아파트 단지 조성으로 인구가 크게 늘었지만 기존 교통 체계는 이를 충분히 반영하지 못하고 있다”며 교차로 중심의 개선 대책을 발표했다.
핵심은 유진장네거리 좌회전 허용이다. 현재 이 교차로는 주요 이동 방향의 좌회전이 제한돼 있어 주민들이 우회 이동을 반복해야 하는 구조다. 권 후보는 ▲평리뉴타운에서 평리지하차도 방향 ▲반도유보라에서 신평리네거리 방향 좌회전을 허용해 생활 동선을 단축하겠다고 밝혔다.
그는 “단순한 신호 조정처럼 보일 수 있지만 출퇴근 시간과 일상 이동에 큰 영향을 주는 문제”라며 “불필요한 우회를 줄이고 이동 시간을 실질적으로 줄이겠다”고 말했다.
두류네거리 횡단보도 설치도 공약에 포함됐다. 달구벌대로 주요 교차로 가운데 이곳만 횡단보도가 없어 보행자들이 지하도를 이용해야 하는 상황이다. 권 후보는 “고령층과 어린이 등 보행약자에게 지하도 이용은 큰 부담”이라며 “보행 중심 교통체계로 전환하겠다”고 강조했다.
다만 두류네거리는 교통량이 많은 간선도로 교차로로, 교통 영향 검토와 관계 기관 협의, 지하상가 상인들의 우려 등으로 사업이 지연돼 온 곳이다. 권 후보는 “그동안 추진이 쉽지 않았지만 더 이상 주민 불편을 방치할 수 없다”며 “충분한 사전 검토와 협의를 거쳐 실제 설치로 이어지도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
권 후보는 “도시 교통은 차량 흐름을 넘어 주민 삶의 질과 직결된 인프라”라며 “행정 경험을 바탕으로 실현 가능한 방식의 개선을 추진하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 권 후보는 1967년 경북 의성 출생으로, 영남대 정치외교학과와 같은 대학원 사회복지학과를 졸업했다. 서구 부구청장과 환경수자원국장 등을 지낸 행정 전문가 출신이다.

Candidate Kwon said, “Urban transportation is infrastructure directly linked to the quality of life of residents, going beyond just vehicle flow,” and added, “I will pursue improvements in a feasible manner based on my administrative experience.”
Meanwhile, Candidate Kwon was born in 1967 in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, and graduated from the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Yeungnam University and the Graduate School of Social Welfare at the same university. He is an administrative expert who has served as the Deputy Mayor of Seo-gu and the Director of the Environment and Water Resources Bureau.
