【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=청주시의회는 1일 청주대성고등학교 학생 59명을 대상으로 어린이ㆍ청소년의회 모의의회 체험프로그램을 운영했다.
이번 프로그램은 지난해 「청주시 어린이·청소년 의회체험활동 지원 조례」 제정 이후 어린이·청소년들이 의회 체험활동을 통해 풀뿌리 민주주의와 지방자치를 이해하고 지방의회의 역할과 기능을 살펴보고, 민주사회 시민으로서 필요한 소양과 자질을 기를 수 있도록 마련되었다.
이날 참가한 학생들은 의장, 의원, 사무직원 등의 역할을 맡아 학생들이 직접 준비한 3분 자유발언을 진행하고, 청소년 건강증진에 관한 조례안 등 5건의 안건에 대해 제안설명, 찬반 토론, 표결 등 실제 의회 회의 절차를 수행하며 지방의회의 역할과 민주적 의사결정 과정을 경험했다.
또한 본회의장과 위원회실 등 의회 주요 시설에 대한 안내와 홍보 영상 시청을 통해 의회의 기능과 역할에 대한 이해를 높이는 시간을 가졌다.
김현기 의장은 “이번 체험이 학생들에게 풀뿌리 민주주의의 중요성을 이해하고 민주시민으로 성장하는 계기가 되기를 바라며, 프로그램이 앞으로 안정적으로 자리 잡아 지속적으로 발전·활성화될 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 청주시의회는 앞으로도 어린이·청소년을 대상으로 한 다양한 의정 체험 프로그램을 지속적으로 운영할 계획이다.
