브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 노동진 한국수산산업총연합회 회장이 수산업의 지속 가능성을 위해 바다 보호의 중요성을 강조했다.
노동진 회장은 1일 열린 제15회 수산인의 날 기념식에서 개회사를 통해 “수산인의 희생으로 지켜온 바다는 국민 생존과 국가 경제에 막대한 영향을 미치는 자연의 보고”라며 “바다를 지켜야 수산업의 미래도 있다”고 밝혔다.
이날 기념식은 ‘함께 지킨 바다, 함께 커가는 수산의 미래’를 주제로 여수에서 열렸으며, 해양수산부가 주최하고 한국수산산업총연합회와 전라남도, 여수시가 공동 주관했다. 행사에는 전국 수산인 1,500여 명이 참석했다.
노 회장은 최근 무분별한 개발과 자원 남획으로부터 바다를 보호하기 위한 제도적 기반이 마련된 점을 언급하며 수산인들의 노력을 높이 평가했다. 특히 해상풍력 입지 선정 시 어업 영향을 고려하는 제도와 수산자원 보호를 강화한 관련 법 개정 등을 성과로 꼽았다.
이어 “이 같은 제도 개선은 바다에서 지속적으로 희망을 찾고, 우리 수산물의 경쟁력을 높이는 중요한 토대가 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
이날 행사에 참석한 수산인들도 바다 보호를 통해 수산업의 미래를 함께 만들어가겠다는 의지를 다졌다.
한편 4월 1일은 수산인의 자긍심을 높이기 위해 제정된 법정 기념일로, 1969년 ‘어민의 날’로 시작해 ‘바다의 날’, ‘어업인의 날’을 거쳐 2015년 ‘수산인의 날’로 명칭이 변경됐다.
