평창군은 봄철 건조한 날씨와 강풍으로 산불 발생 위험이 최고조에 달함에 따라 산불 예방 단속을 대폭 강화한 결과, 불법 소각 행위 7건을 적발하고 예외 없이 전건 과태료 부과를 완료했다고 밝혔다.
올해 봄은 강수량이 턱없이 부족한 데다, 현재 발령 중인 ‘대형산불 특별대책 기간(3. 14.~4. 19.)’에는 강한 바람까지 더해져 아주 작은 불씨도 순식간에 대형 산불로 번질 수 있는 아찔한 상황이다. 이에 군은 주민들의 각별한 경각심과 주의가 절실하다고 판단하고 단속의 고삐를 바짝 죈 상태다.

군은 이번에 적발된 불법 소각 사례 7건에 대해 ‘산림 재난 방지법’을 엄격하게 적용, 무관용 원칙에 따라 과태료를 부과했다. 앞으로도 ‘소각 산불 제로(Zero)’ 목표를 달성하기 위해 촘촘한 산불 예방 및 감시 활동을 전방위적으로 펼칠 계획이다.
이주하 평창군 산림과장은 “산림과 인접한 곳에서의 불법 소각 등 산불을 유발할 수 있는 모든 행위에 대해서는 앞으로도 일말의 예외 없이 엄정하게 조치할 것”이라며, “소중한 산림 자원과 군민의 안전을 지키기 위해 화기 취급에 각별한 주의를 기울여 주시기를 간곡히 당부드린다”고 전했다.
