[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 거제시는 3일 거제3·1운동 기념공원에서 제16회 아주4·3독립만세운동 기념식을 개최했다.
아주4·3독립만세운동은 1919년 4월 3일, 일제의 탄압에 맞서 아양리 바닷가와 아주장터 일대에서 민족의 자주독립을 외쳤던 거제 지역 대표 항일운동으로, 거제시는 애국선열들의 숭고한 희생정신을 기리기 위해 매년 기념행사를 이어오고 있다.
기념식에는 변광용 거제시장과 도·시의원 및 주요 기관·단체장을 비롯해 독립유공자 유가족, 보훈단체, 시민, 학생 등 300여 명이 참석해 선열들의 뜻을 되새겼다.
기념식에서 윤병찬 거제3․1운동기념탑 건립위원과 이라희 학생(거제중학교)이 독립선언서를 함께 낭독해 세대를 잇는 독립정신의 계승이라는 상징성을 보여줬다.
또한 전통창작무용단 ‘춤비슬’은 태극기를 활용한 한국무용 퍼포먼스를 선보이며, 삼일운동의 정신을 예술적으로 표현해 기념식의 의미를 한층 더욱 깊게 했다.
변광용 시장은 기념사를 통해 “아주4·3독립만세운동은 나라의 자주독립을 위해 함께 뜻을 모았던 거제의 자랑스러운 역사이자, 오늘의 거제를 하나로 잇는 힘”이라며, “선열들의 헌신과 용기를 기억하고 이어가는 것이 더 나은 거제를 만들어가는 출발점이 될 것 ”이라고 강조했다.

On the 3rd, Geoje City held the 16th Aju 4.3 Independence Movement Commemoration Ceremony at the Geoje 3·1 Movement Memorial Park.
The Aju 4.3 Independence Movement is a representative anti-Japanese movement of the Geoje region that took place on April 3, 1919, when people shouted for national independence in defiance of Japanese imperial oppression along the Ayang-ri seaside and the Aju market. Geoje City has been holding commemorative events every year to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of these patriotic martyrs.
